Silkie thread!

Quick question....will a silkie roo try and mate with much larger hens? We have 5 barred rock hens....our silkie roo is much smaller than them! We also have two silkie pullets (17 weeks), one Icelandic and two Ameraucana pullets (all 15 weeks).

Well I have a old English game bantam and he tries and fails to mate the big girls (2 EE pullets and a SFH pullet) so I assume a silkie will try as well.

Yes. The roosters I put in with my laying flock mate my brahmas all the time

Ok friends! I know it's early but thought I'd give this a whirl! I have 4 - 6wk old, very PQ Silkies. I've really began noticing some behaviors in the last few days - thought I'd share some pics and what I've witnessed and see if anyone wants to throw out a guess!
(I have my own guesses but I'm dying to see what y'all think!)

Chick #1 (kinda stumped... pushy, one of the first to the food and to scatter it, loves to perch and hang w/#2 - although, they do plenty of chest bumpin')

Chick #2 (Almost postitive a roo. Pushy, first to food, loves to perch, my homely lil' thing! I gotta love him cuz I'm afraid no one else will!)

Chick #3 "Popcorn" (VERY docile, the last one to the food, would much rather nestle in and get comfy than perch) Chicks 3 & 4 are always together.

Chick #4 (docile, not doesn't care to perch much and is one of the last to the food - *excuse its wet crest)View attachment 1131876 View attachment 1131877 View attachment 1131878

Thanks so much for lookin'!

Hi there!!!
Just from observation al of the pictures seem like roosters to me. My silkies are 4 months old. I am not an expert but I have done a bunch of research on how to sex silkies before they start crowing , I drove myself nuts LOL!

Anyone know of this breeder? I live close enough to drive but want to check if anyone has had good feedback.

Thanks!

We got a 3 yr partridge silkie recently. He is adorable ( although I am sure being a male he doesn't think so lol). Anyways, when he does his mating dance, he doesn't use his wings. He claws the ground a couple times, does a pitter patter a few steps, then hops on one leg sideways. It's so awesome and we love him to death. He is gentle with the small chicks and actually feeds them what he finds for food.

Had to give Goku a haircut. I'd have cut back more but there were pinfeathers in the way. It fixed his biting issue. He was pretty much blind and reacted aggressively because he couldn't see the other boys coming for him.
