Silkie thread!

Thank You! I deffinatley will try this. Is there any way to find silkie breeders? I live in Idaho and am wanting to get more silkies but havn't found any. Any suggestions on how to find them?

Sundown has BEAUTIFUL silkies!!! If I had the room for a buff pen those eggs would be mine!!!

I've been thinning out my silkie flock and it is so hard....

How do you guys do it? I decide to sell, list them on craigslist, email, have them call me and then qualify them to see if they are worthy to have my babies!

I had a guy call me today, he told me he had some RIR's he was getting ready to eat. I kindly informed him silkies were not to be eaten. Then I quizzed him about his coop, runs, and predators. I felt like the silkie police.

When they come to pick them up I make it very clear, silkies are not regular chickens and need to be protected, they are pets.

I know almost everyone has had a predator attack and people learn from their mistakes but I ask them!

People in my area are not farmers. They are horse people ( like dressage at Devon) and then they get some alpacas, some llamas and an Angus or 2. Then they try chickens.
I was talking to the guys who work at the feed store. 50% of the people who bought chicks this spring never had chickens before, including this guy.
This is great for the backyard chicken hobby and probably great for me. The poor hatchery chicks have all been eaten by predators and the feed store's don't have chicks anymore. Hopefully by paying $30-$50 for a silke pullet and $15-$25 for a cockerel they'll be more vigilant in protecting them.

Does anyone else screen?

Just am FYI both hens & cocks have that same bump. I have a lot of get show hens that have had that.

It is harder letting go of Silkies than other breeds because it takes them so long to mature. You have to keep them much longer to ascertain their quality and sex, so by the time you're ready to sell, you have become really attached.
