G'morning!!
Congrats on the new chicks Tanichna! Incubator going to keep running now that you've caught the hatching bug?
Rilly.... Thank you for those links. This might be my christmas present to myself this year. That would work on my dogs, the horses, and the birds. I probably wouldn't hit every single baby in the growout pens, but definitely those valuable ones in the breeding pens.
featherbaby.... Yeah I wish we could go to all those measures with security cameras at the shows. With the costs to rent to show halls, hire judges, etc, I really don't see clubs doing that though. Those of us who show kind of have an alliance and watch out for everyone else's stuff too usually. There are a certain few people that you know to watch out for. At that show this fall where birds were switched, I thought we had all bases covered. The day when it happened I was already there from 7 am til 9pm at night. Being 4 months pregnant at the time, I was almost dead on my feet by the end of the day. When I left it was only the 2 parties out there in their campers and the show secretary and his assistant left on the show grounds. The assistant said they were going to lock up as soon as they finished up with all the trophies and certificates. Ok fine.... well sometime in there, they must have been over in the show office for long enough to enough to let people come in and cause trouble. At the Hutch show 2 weeks later, a call duck drake was stolen as a friend of mine was cooping in. There was only 1 other party in that same aisle when the drake diseappeared. The bird was spotted at this person's trailer in a cage with the band still on and a complaint was filed immediately. Show officials wouldn't do a thing about it.
Sonoran.... yes it definitely does make you think twice about being in the barn alone. I live in town and rent a farmplace. Somedays when I have off, I need to catch up on cleaning pens and stuff. I'm out in that barn by myself even into the evening hours. You don't know how creepy it feels not knowing if you are going to walk in on someone or if someone will just come walking in on you. I try to bring a family member with now and they fully understand. They just don't want to sit out there for hours on end like I do. I now have 2 pretty big dogs out there full-time and another that stays with me in the house and goes to the barn too. The game cams are a pain in the butt and are set off every time one of my peacocks trips them. They are more of those 'just in case' measures though.
