Where does everyone get their Prednisone- and what form does it come in (tablet or drop)?

I have a little spastic rooster that I'm very fond of, and the situation is just as B'rody's Broodello described. Any period when he is stressed - because of temperature extremes or eating poorly - he backslides to a head-whipping, creeping-backwards condition. If fed, watered and coddled assiduously he snaps out of it. This summer he was tearing around the yard like a normal chicken, but right now he's stuck in a box with his legs sticking out. I would love it if there was some pharmaceutical approach that would make his life easier. Thinking that aspirin was also antiinflammatory, I've tried that on several occasions, with no perceptible effect.

Best - exop

Prednisone will not help whatever is ailing your boy. It sounds more like wry neck than head trauma. Pick up some Exact Hand Rearing Formula for cage birds, add a capsule of vitamin E with selenium. Give that to him for a couple of days, see if that will pull him out of it.

featherbaby, aspirin can be used on chickens quite safely. Its one of the safer pain relievers for chickens.

last night I came home to no propane and a cold house. I ordered it monday and they still haven't delivered it I called they are coming. but I had two chicks get away from the heat lamp and they were nearly stiff

So I stuck them in my pocket while I built a fire, made dinner , did dishes, and watched Community. they finally started peeping enough for the Chihuahua to notice

Well then it was bed time I I was trying to figure out a way to keep them warm in the bed without squishing them (DH is out of town) then I remembered duh I have an incubator going

Thanks, Good to know, Robin416. My avian vet said never use it on cockatoos/parrots. Where do you get the Vit.E with selenium caps? Is it good for adding to food occasionally or just used to treat this problem?

Vitamin E with selenium can be purchased in any OTC drug aisle.

Chances are the species of bird you referred to can not tolerate aspirin and its good to follow that advice. Its also good for anyone to be aware of whether or not that the drugs they are using are safe. Just as most dogs are tolerant of different wormers and tick treatments there are breeds of dogs that are not.

Hi All! I have a question for those of you who have businesses breeding silkies. I am thinking about starting a small business. What would you recommend I do to get started? I currently have pet quality (and I LOVE THEM ANYWAY

) Silkies and I am thinking of a separate coop and run for the be better quality silkies that I would raise for business purposes. What would be my first few steps to get started? I was thinking to perhaps focus on one color of silkie and purchase a few show quality birds to breed. Is that what you would recommend? I'm pretty new to chickens still, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
