I felt my Crixus was just *begging* to get his words out in a language we humans can understand, because, well, he challenges anything with a pulse. So I gave the little snot a hand.

This'll be going up in the spring. Just wanted to share with Silkie folks. I never get the honor of owning those 'cuddly' Silkie roosters everyone talks about. But I love my boy anyway.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to do this, as I didn't want to sell eggs, but I'd rather sell them than eat them. One of my incubators broke down and the part still isn't here. It's 8 pm here without any sign of the UPS truck.... so I've decided to list one auction and see how it goes (not regarding price, regarding how much of a pain it turn out to be).

This auction is for at least 8 lavender/porcelain eggs, as well as bonuses from my other pens (depending on what is laid over the next few days and what I can fit in my incubator- no whites available). These are from the same pens I raise the birds I keep and show from. If you look at my BYC page it includes a list of my wins from the fall shows (incomplete, as I also had BB and RB silkie and a few BV at the Chehalis show in Dec).

It's funny,.. I've had to set up a "prioritization system" for my eggs. I always label each one, but now I have each egg labelled and sorted into different cartons by how important I feel it is to get them into the incubator. We have the Western Silkie National and the APA semiannual in Stevenson, WA in April, and I've committed to donating to the breeders auction and to the silkie club raffle,..... and since I usually win on my whites and blacks those are priority because if I win with those colors it might increase bids on the birds. I also KNOW I'm showing them, which means by the end of Feb I need to pluck all the feathers I trimmed to give them plenty of time to grow back by the date of the show. I might show one of my black split girls, and we will see if some of the young lavenders are looking good at showtime, but they aren't AS important. My partridge also aren't as important, but I've not had the greatest fertility with them (about 60%) so I retrimmed their rears earlier this week- but haven't had time to confirm fertility so while they might be some bonus eggs- I wouldn't dare list an auction for them. Same with my BBS. Fertility is there but not as high as I'd like- I believe this is because one or two of the girls isn't trimmed well enough.
The lavender/split/porcelain pen on the other hand has rockstar fertility.

I thought all my blue showgirls hatched last summer were boys,... well,... I did end up with one female! Hallelujah!

Rilly- I **SWORE** all my blue SGs were boys,... but,.. there is a GIRL! So, you never know. There were several late bloomers, but they sure looked like they had streamers, There were a couple that, due to comb development or crowing, were certainly boys. I got rid of the best known cockerel, then I got rid of the boys that were getting big combs,... and then one of the remainder laid an egg. Looking at vents quickly revealed the culprit, but the other two remaining have since crowed and are definite boys.
