Silkie thread!

Oh yes, bantams will breed large fowl. This occurs in waterfowl too,.. I will never forget my white runner drake that would continually mate my largest Dewlap Toulouse female all last season. It was like watching a rodeo, and she was the bucking bronc.

It's like dogs, if there's a will there's a way.

So, we know for definite we have 1 Silkie roo (the 1 we bought home from Morganton) but at what age can you sex silkies and how? It's not like a dog where you can lift his tail up and see, or a Barred Rock where they normally have a larger light/white spot on their heads......

Think I may need help!!!!

Gavin~~when you find the secret to sexing Silkies~~PATENT it!!! lol Usually, until they lay an egg or crow, you're never quite sure.

Perfect example : though I thought I could sex them at 6 weeks, I was proved wrong. I had 6 black cockerels in a grow out pen, they share a fence "wall" with a definite Lav cockerel and his little girlfriends. I was sitting in the barn playing with them, and saw the Lav cockerel "flirting" with a couple blacks next door....I said "Nate, quit that....those are boys" well--guess what---Nate was right !! there were TWO black pullets in that grow out pen

I am getting a silkie in a few weeks. Very excited but also a bit nervous. We have chickens but not silkies and I don't know much about them. Princess Laquisha (the silkie I will be getting) is going to be living in my house. Has that been a problem with anyone? Also, do their feathers get dirty easily? I feel like that would be a big problem...
