I watched my silkie lay her egg this morning! It was very cool. I've never seen her lay before. I've thrown all eggs but the two I checked for fertility into my bator, VERY interested to see what I'm going to get out of my young pullets. There is honestly no telling at this point! I have a porcelain in with a splash, and the blacks that I bought at the show were in with a blue when I picked them up, but no telling what they were in with before. (Hopefully black.....I want some more GOOD blacks!)
I have a big ole partridge silkie that hatched back in November. He is definitely a Roo. Large Feed and legs. He has the characteristics of a silky but for some reason I think he is mixed. I'm gonna have to get a pic and put it on here and see what you all think.

Rain itself is not a problem. It's rain with cool to cold temperatures. They don't shed water like regular fowl because they lack the barbicels to hold their feathers together. It take them a LONG time to dry. Shoot...it takes me 30-45 minutes to blow one dry with a warm hair dryer after bathing.
Then you have a soaked bird that can't dry before they become hypothermic.
