I need your opinion silkie lovers! I'm getting my first silkies and can't decide if I want to get chicks or hatching eggs from a breeder nearby

. I've never hatched before, but have someone hatching some bantam cochin eggs for me. I'm afraid of having a ton of extra chicks and not having anything to do with them!

What do you think?

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I keep reading silkies can be difficult to hatch. I'll just need to time it accordingly so that they are around the same age as the bantams I'm hatching.

Just located the Silkie Thread. How interesting. We have 14 hens black, partritge, red and one Red Rooster. I don't care what color...I just love the bearded ones.

My husband wanted White. He ordered 3 white eggs from My Pet Chicken and they are expected to come this week. We had to order 6 hens if we want chicks and we did not want that many.

Looking forward to the hatch. We are going to us one of our broody hens to hatch. Keep you posted. Aria

I have 4 broody hens. After they hatch what they have now i'm going to start taking the eggs away when they lay. I get some from the one in that pen that isn't broody.

My white pen i'm getting eggs from and I just added 2 silver hens but no eggs from them yet. My partridge is sitting on eggs to but only 1 of them is hers. The rest are from the white silkies. So that makes 5 broody's. I'm going to use my polish/silkie mix and sizzle as broody's after they get a break.

So this morning I dropped the lid of my Brower and broke three silkie eggs

I had yanked the lid off really fast because I noticed the temps were edging up over 102. I had a stupid egg o' meter in there that was only reading 98.9 and the temps were almost 103 with two different thermometers at eggs level, geez oh pete! I'm beginning to think none of them are going to hatch

That stinks!

Is it still air? Because still air incubators can be run high. I run at 99 degrees and instead of turning it up if it goes down i put a fleece blanket over it to keep it warm, its just enough to bring it back up.

No the Brower has a fan, I have it wrapped in a beach towel right now to help with temp fluctuations. I shouldn't have even messed with that darn egg o' meter piece of junk. I gave it overnight to come to temperature then upped the heat a tad thinking maybe my thermometers were off. By the time I saw that the heat had spiked too much I freaked and ended up with broken eggs from my butter fingers.
