Silkie thread!

A pic would be helpful. If there is skin missing from the skull it just might be treatable. I had a new hen scalp one of her chicks. The entire top the skull was exposed. I removed peep and its sibs from Mom, didn't want to risk it happening again, cleaned the area with saline and applied antibiotic ointment. It took a long time but eventually the area closed and as she matured feathers grew to cover the area so that you would never know it happened.

Robin! I just realized you are the same Robin that helped me out on the ASBC boards!!!

Wouldn't it be great if chickens hatched like quail??? lol Does your hens maybe sit on the eggs from time to time without you catching it? That's the only way I can think of that they would be hatching consistently on different days? idk! With my hatches I usually get one early bird then the rest on time but I've had horrible hatches so comparing to me really isn't fair! lol

She is so cute!

I would really love to have a small flock of Silkies, but they don't do good in TX's heat.

Once I get my dream breeding barn w/ heating/cooling I'll get me some Silkies!

LOL I live in EL Paso, TX!! Plenty of people have Silkies in Texas, you can do it! This summer I plan on accommodating my small flock with ice water and misting added to their sun screen shades I'm pretty confident they will do fine. The only thing I wouldn't do is buy adult birds from a different climate in the middle of Texas heat, that would be bad...

Ouch! Poor chickie! Did it hatch out like that? If it were me and the chick appeared to be healthy in every other way it's wait until it's dry offer some water then go about cleaning it's poor little head. Keep it clean and dry and hopefully it should heal up would be my theory but who knows? Ive never heard of them hatching out like that missing skin on their heads weird!

Some pics from my smokey whites pen.

Now I have not kept any OS from these because I really didn't need a new project to work on. My aunt has some and I'v only sold to Local people about 50% of the chicks from this pen as adults they feather in ALL white and DO NOT produce OS of this color AND about 50% feathering in Almost a Lavender color Or White with a dirty look to them and these DO produce OS these colors. Now the Background of the parents I know about 4-5 Generations back of ALL and ONLY whites so its weird for these colors to pop up I guess I am not very good with Genetics but I just wanted to share.

Hi everyone! Im new to the world of silkies. I have one that i got from Meyers about 5 weeks ago he/she is in with LF and one that i got from TSC with other assorted bantams.
My question is when do they start to like to be held? Mine hate it!

I'm 100% positive it's the brain exposed. Some sort of defect. I still have it separated from the other chicks. It acted normal at first. Now it has trouble balancing, and holding it's head up right. It's a fighter though. Hopefully it's not suffering, bc I dont have the heart to put it down. CCK

Hi, my two mystery chicks look just like yours in pictures 3,4 and 5. The are pale gold with grey in wings and body but no stripes. Do these turn out to be white? Grey? and what does OS stand for?

OS means Offspring...
In over two years of dealing with this color I have had them feather in all white a lavender color or a dirty white. I'v been told there are some whites out there that carry a Smokey line I am not the best with Genetics or really where the line of smokey whites come from. Maybe some of the Genetic gurus will jump in on this and give better advice.
