Silkie thread!

I just went back out to the coop and there where 2 white ones sitting but there where also 2 eggs and the splash was back up on the nest with no eggs under her. I may as well take advantage of it and give her some eggs. Soulsong will be sending me some from a swap so i'll give her those when they get here.

Haha! Mine makes these ridiculous noises whenever I get near her and her pile of eggs. I hate doing it, but we are just getting out of winter and if she's going to get away with it, it will not be below 50 outside when she starts. I picked her up the other day, trying to make her go play with everyone else and she just stayed in her sitting position after I had set her on the ground. She was talking away and sitting. Throwing a little temper tantrum. They are by far the broodiest birds I've come in contact with.

aww, poor things, glad you brought them into the light!

Haha, yeah me too. Poor things were caked in their own filth stuck in this tiny bird cage when I found them. She's one of those people who have good intentions and then they overwhelm themselves with these animals...over the years, I've rescued at least 10 chickens and a dog. Had to pay money for all of them, that's the only way she'll let them go. She acts like she loves them, but then you say anything to do with cash and "take it!" Thankfully....the law got after her.
I realize I can't take Gamma to shows or anything because of his lacking toes...but I still think he's a beautiful boy and he's super friendly. My birds are pets, imperfections are fine. <3

My house chicken is a sizzle and she went broody last month. I gave her a couple of her sisters eggs, then got some in the mail and gave her a few of those too. The first ones hatched and they stayed in the box with her and they needed to eat so I took the other eggs away and OMG the fit the threw. She was standing up stomping her feet and just yelling away at me.

Now everytime I walk up to her cage she tells me off and gives me the stink eye. She used to love me

It was definately a camcorder moment but unfortunately I don't carry one around with me. I laughed at her when she did it. I've been giving her extra treats to win her back over. It's so cute because she will grab it from me and carry it to her box and share it with her chicks. She's still mad. She knows I have treats but I still get the stink eye

at least you dont have game hens who try to tear your face and hands apart, when you dont check and collect three times a day to break them of brooding, that id dangerous, and the three roos just look at me make the chuckle or alarm call, and cower back behind me, as if to be like: " hey dude, better you than me!". i just decided yesterday to let them keep their eggs, and now today, out of the four, they take turns so one is always at least in the hen house and they get ticked if i get near it and run out and swarm me. hope the wimpy roos give the chicks some even temperament.

I'm so excited because I should be getting 5 white Silkie chicks in a few days. I just hope I don't have more than one roo because I wouldn't be able to keep him. At least I found a petting zoo two hours away that would take him.

Is there anything I should should know about them that's different from other chickens? Special care, attention, personality, etc.?

One of my silkies hatched her first babies out in the coop in the beginning of January! She did great! I didn't even separate her until "lockdown" time. I was shocked the chicks did so well. I did end up moving them into the garage because the temps were going well below zero at night and I was worried about them. They are still in my garage because I don't feel they are big enough in size to be integrated with my flock yet. Two of them crow their little heads off every morning. They started at about 3 months, which was earlier than any of my others. Usually, I don't hear a crow until they are closer to 5 or 6 months.
