thanks for the edjucation on the silkie, frizzle, and sizzle. anyone have any comparative pics (dont know what a sizzle looks like and cant find pics)? anyone have test or bad quality eggs they still want loved on? im looking to try some hatching eggs, as told theyre hard to get to raise up from there, but actually love the supposed bad, non fluffed/buffed any were ones (head, feet etc, whatever the ones you can still see some to most key points still bird. lol). plus im guessing the non tuffted buffed etc will be easier to start out with and keep. ?

The cockerel is not really a blue partridge. ALL partrige (blue or regular) should have at least half (preferably more) of their breast feathers black (or blue), not gold. He may be a good female breeder, but is not a show bird, and will not produce show sons.

I have a couple cockerels growing out that are showing some promise though. I picked up on that when I bought him. These are my first Silkies ever so I'm still learning.

I love this thread!!!

I love silkies, it is now the only breed I am raising. I raise for pets, fresh eggs and now I just started incubating eggs. I want to learn to candle eggs, and one day attend the shows, meet breeders and see all the colors of silkies.

I would love it if everyone could post pictures of their flock, and indentify the color and tell how you obtained the color- example-Bred White Roo to Black Hen.

There are so many colors of silkies, and I want them all! Really, I love all my silkies, no matter what color or type, but it is so much fun to see what color hatches out, and how they turn out when they are grown.

I hope everyone will post

This also leaves me with two questions Please:

1-When breeding for color-does it matter the gender of the color? In other words-does the male carry or determine the dominate color trait?

2-At what age can the color be determined?

Thanks to everyone!
