Silkie thread!

It doesn't matter in silkies, since it doesn't show on silkied feathers.

Here is a lavender chick, I think this turned out to be a pullet

Well to me the chick doesn't look to be splash so I would guess lavender but you know how judging pictures on the internet goes lol Kinda looks to be white if I didn't know better... Post more pictures in a week or two bet it'll be easier to tell

Thank You! I have been looking for a lavender for a long time and those two hens were the closet i got. I saw the lav roo on 8 weeks and older and i absolutely love him but i cant spend that much again.

Hopefully this will be a rooster and lavender

Poultrycrazy I saw him too isn't he a cutie? He's not perfect but any lavender silkie makes my heart go pitter patter ya know? lol You'd get a much faster start on lavender babies with two breeding age birds versus playing the waiting game. I don't remember seeing any bids on him, you might be able to still scoop him up if you're lucky

I finally thinned out my whites for my breeding pen and I let two cockerels and three pullets go home with my babysitter/housekeeper. She said I looked like I was giving away my children

I know she'll give them a lovely home though and she was just in awe of how pretty they were. She is planning to keep them as pets and eye candy so they were perfect for her. Not that she cared but just in case I pointed out to her the reasons I was letting them go versus the ones I was keeping so she would realize if she ever wanted to breed the best of them what to look for. One of the cockerels was really a stunning sweet boy. We bartered 6 hours of her scrubbing my house for the birds. Love it! My house is sparkling!
Wish I could keep them all, really do but oh well I bought them all as groups knowing that all of them weren't going to get to stay with me so now I'm patting myself on the back

OK, I think my first silkie hatch is complete. My first eggs came from 2 breeders. Each set was 1 dozen +. I received 30 eggs and 23 made it to lockdown. Wednesday I got my first pips. Thursday morning the first chick. By the end of the day I had 11 chicks and 3 more zipping. Friday morning I woke up to 3 more chicks and by mid morning there were a total of 18 chicks! The remaining 5 eggs aren't showing any signs of life but I'll give them another day or two. I am a very proud mama and have to show off. I should have 9 buffs, 6 white, 2 splash and 1 uncertain.

Loved this one!

Any idea on the color of this one? Only supposed to have buff, white and splash in this group, plus the one that was unknown. The unknown egg was not this chick.

The 2 chicks that I'm not sure about color:

And I thought this one was just too cute.

I haven't checked each one but all the feet I've inspected have pretty good toes. One baby had a crooked foot and I applied a band aid boot.

I have a couple chicks that have dried on egg goo... do you clean that off?

Have to say, I am very pleased with my 78% hatch. If the other 8 dozen in the bators do so well I'm going to have silkie babies coming out my ears. Guess DH and I better get busy building more coops!

Thank you for letting me share the joy. Would love feedback.

Julie
