Thanks,

Beth,

Looking on here at the pictures (rather than my phone), I do think they could be splash. Hopefully, someone with more hatching experience will chime in though. I haven't seen many right after hatch (since my hatching skills are lacking lately) and I have yet to hatch a splash.

My daughter is showing for the second time tomorrow. She will be showing these silkies. I think this time preparation was a little easier for us. I definitely think that we will be bringing more things to entertain ourselves this time though. It is a looooong day.

Sometimes its hard to tell what color they are when you have blue, lav, and splash together and crossbred....may have to guess until they are getting their mature feathers...my homebred whites are a brownish and yellow color but feather in perfectly white....partridge color often looks like little chipmunks ....stripes and all and sometimes the buffs come out with darker body down then you would expect....maybe after Ive been doing this for ten or more years i might understand the down coloring better....I am still trying to figure out which chick is my lavender in a bunch of splash and blue...lol...it will emerge one day in the next few months..lol..we have a ginormous amount of silkie chicks and will be selling some off in the fall when we go to all the shows but we just love all the little fuzzies running around..

Thanks for your feedback I appreciate it!! I know the partridges and whites pretty well but these look like nothing I've ever seen. Maybe I'll just wait like you said and see what they turn out to be! The suspense is killing me though

I'll have to post in two months to see maybe what you all say then

Hi Everyone! I am new to raising backyard chickens and very new to silkies. I only have one, but hopefully that will change soon. It is supposed to be 2 weeks this Tuesday, but it could be as old as 5 weeks. I would really like some help figuring out how old it is, if anyone can help. I got it from a local feed store, so I don't expect it to be of show quality and I really don't want it to be. I just think they are cute

I noticed today it is starting to get these odd looking feathers. They kinda stick out and look like they are split. From the little bit of digging I did, I think it is normal for the breed, but I would like some opinions on the matter. Sorry the pics are not the best, I have to use my camera phone as my real camera is acting weird.

And of course, if anyone has any suggestion about its gender, I would appreciate it. I have kinda figured out they are hard to sex, though.

Thanks for the help Everyone!!!

Thank you! I will tell her. I think she now has high expectations after winning BB and CHFLEG at her first show. But, I keep telling her that you never know what could happen and what other silkies hers will be up against. I just hope that a loss won't be too dissapointing for her now. LOL. At the first show, we had ABSOLUTELY no expectations and were there mostly to learn. Now that she has a taste of victory, it is a different story for her I think. Hahaha.
