I'd guess that chick is no more than 2 weeks. The weird looking feather issue will probably get less noticeable as the chickie gets older I've had quite a few around that age have some wonky-ness going on with their feathers that smoothed out once they started to feather out more.

Thank you! I will tell her. I think she now has high expectations after winning BB and CHFLEG at her first show. But, I keep telling her that you never know what could happen and what other silkies hers will be up against. I just hope that a loss won't be too dissapointing for her now. LOL. At the first show, we had ABSOLUTELY no expectations and were there mostly to learn. Now that she has a taste of victory, it is a different story for her I think. Hahaha.

Best of Luck! You have some really nice silkies so hopefully she'll do well again

Victory is pretty good tasting lol not winning like you'd like though will be a good lesson learned if it happens. My mom used to always console me with banana splits when I was a kid and didn't win or do well while doing one of my activities lol

Thanks! I think it is a good experience either way. I hope that she handles it well. She is at that age (11) where she is so moody it makes me crazy!! Haha. She is tough right now. BUT, she has gotten straight A's all year and she is generally a really good kid. She just has that teenage attitude going on already.

I have a few questions about my Silkies....

Okay my only two roosters are silkies, very very tame, handled several times a day. They are nearly 3 mo old. (hens are same age, too) They still arent crowing yet, so im thinking they are late bloomers. I live in city limits and my neighbors have really been enjoying watching my flock, and I want it to stay that way. They actually said they cant wait to get a cock-a-doodle-do in the morning lol, but im still hoping my boys wont be as loud as the other standard size breeds ive had.

So, when silkies crow (never had a silkie roo before) is it and quieter compared to other breeds?

When they mature are less agressive than other breeds?

They are in a 12' x12' run with a 4' x 5' coop with 5 girls (rir, ameracauna, 2 silkies, polish) will this be enough room for the two roos?

Should I add a few more silkie hens for the roos or will 5 be enough?

And, at what age do the silkie hens start getting broody?

My Silkie laid an egg today! This is a big deal. Her companion died on Easter. Plus, we weren't sure Tina Turner was female up until I yelled out, "what the hell is in the cage?" This shows to me that *she* is on the mend and her meds worked! She will probably go live with another lone silkie at my friend's house. This is good! I gave her a bath and blow dry yesterday and she gave me an egg today.
