Silkie thread!

I would like as many opinions as possible on this. My daughter showed this pullet as a splash and won CHFLEG. Today, we entered her as a splash, but when we got there, all the breeders were telling me she is a blue, not a splash. So, they said we should change her card to blue and enter her as such. What do you all think about her?? She is a beauty...but her color confuses me some. She placed 2nd today...I was suprised she got beat out by my darker blue pullet.

If I'm standing at the front of my house and one of the boys crows I hear it but it's not very loud, my German shepherd barking is louder. I've been leaving a couple of them out at night and I can't hear a thing in my bedroom (It's in the front of the house & I run a fan at night) In my kitchen & family room I hear them loud and clear. I have a black roo that is pretty loud, he's very determined and also a larger sized silkie IMO. He sounds like he's going to bust a gut he tries so hard when he crows but in comparison to some larger breeds I've heard it's probably 1/3 less volume. I have another boy that crows but it's pretty high pitched and doesn't carry well he's the same age as the black roo but a smaller in comparison. So yeah it just depends.

Also it depends on the boys personality on how they will handle the roo/hen ratio. Growing up together may help also the breed in general but once those hormones kick in you might have wished you had added. I'm keeping 1 roo over 3-5 hens and they seem happy with that w/only one roo in the pen. I mixed my BBS together temporarily with 2 roos over 6 hens. Not so great. One roo got his a** stomped the first day, hid the second day and now just stays out of the way. I don't think he's breeding any of the girls now so it's not really an ideal thing and I plan to separate them back out soon. IMO Your coop is a tad small for adding the extras but I think with the abundant run space you have it could work. I also think that adding more silkies would be a good idea

If not silkies I'd stick to a docile breed. Broody idk enough to comment on that other than to say it depends on when the girl lays (usually) and also the individual.

I did get her from Bobbi and she was sold to me as a splash, but the breeders/judges are telling me she is a blue.​

I might be crazy but she looks like a Merlin baby with that beautiful crest lol I'd trust her if she said she's a splash. Last time I knew she had blue or a splash roo over blue & splash hens in most of her pens so it's not so far out there that she is just washed out. I do believe she has also lavender running in her splash lines with a couple of her roos and she's told me in the past that splashes from those birds that get the lav gene tend to be feathering out a light blue or a smokey splash color. ::shrug:: You might do better showing her as a blue though if the other splashes have a more pronounced color. What color roos do you have?

Haha...I am getting mixed opinions again.

I do think she is a Merlin baby...I was searching my emails but couldn't find the one telling me, but I'm pretty sure!!! That is so funny!

My cockeral is a dark blue. He is in with two dark blue girls and this one to get started.

Do you have a Blue to compare her to? Doesn't Bobbi have a website? I would also compare to pics on there if she has one.

My other blues are dark. Blues come in all different shades from light to dark, so it is hard to do a comparison.
