I shipped out hatching eggs and purchased hatching eggs all summer last year and never had any problems. If I order hatching eggs in the summer and I unpack them and they are warm from being in the truck they go straight into the incubator but the turner gets shut off for 2-3 days. IF the eggs already started to develop during shipment, why bother letting them cool down? I actually had some great hatches during the summer, I think I got about 14 or 15 eggs and ended up with 10 or 11 chicks. And it was HOT when they were shipped.

It's warmin up around here, low 90's this week. You know how it is when you want something, you just gotta get it. I have some Catdance chicks, but was wanting to specifically get some pretty whites.

Hi I have some Catdance whites but i think most are cockerels...ha last year I couldnt find a nice cockerel in white this year I have lots...I just hatched some more eggs and I had better hatch rates early winter so not sure if the heat disturbs them or not....I have all these different colors...porcelains...greys...will have to sell them as we have enough pens of colors now...but sure is fun watching them grow up ...

Another question for all of you silkie fans.

What do you use fof nest boxes for your silkies? i've tried using small pet carriers but they end up sitting and pooping on them and just makes more work.

I house my breeders in a 4x4 pen and they always decide they are going to lay their eggs in the farthest corner of the pen. Kinda hard to get to them since my pens are stacked two high.

I was thinking about having hubby just make a square out of say 1"x 6" high about 12 to 14" square so it would hold more wood chips. They I would put it in the corner closer to the door. Do you think they would use it or am I wasting my time??


I hate to put anything in with a top for the sake of their pooping all over it.


Any and all ideas ?? Pictures of yours?
