You can build one, Just do alot of research and wham you done it. If you can wire up a pc fan then you can wire a incubator. When I 1st done it I thought I wired it up wrong and when I plugged it in and everything worked, I was like yepee. I done something right without starting a fire.

I saw an incubator on ebay that is built here in TX I was thinking of ordering. They hand make them and they look super pretty like a little wooden cabinet. Just add your own turners. That's about as close as I'm gonna get to building my own I think. Who knows though! I started this journey thinking I'd never buy an incubator and I'd only have 6 chickens as pets and "for eggs only"! Now look at me haha! I can't even bring myself to eat a silkie egg! It's just weird to me lol My hubs and kiddo like to eat them just fine and say they are tasty but it grosses me out! Not that the got to eat very many of them but when I'm not hoarding them to hatch or when I have a mixed pen or girls without a rooster over them I'm not just gonna toss them.

Ohhhh! That incubator sounds cool! I'm going to take a look!

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy :

I got 3 Lav Silkie eggs in a surprise dozen I bought from 'revolutionmam'...hoping they all hatch and I have a trio!

What are the odds...1/100, or 1/1,000?

Did they get shipped? Looking in my crystal ball I'd say you'll get one of the three! Maybe if you do the egg dance you'll get all 3!

jk jk!

Did you get a whole dozen silkie eggs or was it a mixture of breeds? Lavender eggs in my experience are frickin' hard to hatch! Best of luck!!!

Yes. I got a mixture of breeds. The only other bantam eggs were white, and they said "Polish" so those aren't Silkie eggs.

What kind of incubator do you use? I have a 1588 HB, a Mini Brinsea Advanced, and then two GQF Sportsmans. I may put the Silkie eggs in the Brinsea...

What do you think?

I want a sportsman!!! ::stomping my feet:::

I have a 1588 and it's done well for me I also have a Brinsea 20 Advance. If it were me I'd put what you really want to hatch the most in your Brinsea. My 1588 holds temp and humidity just as well as my Brinsea but for some reason I have better luck with the Brinsea. Maybe it's the yellow....

Boy! I like that incubator you mentioned! Such great visability! Think of all the flashlight batteries we'd save!!

The one I'm building will have a plexiglass door & a nite light in it. I think in case of power outtage I'll hook up the battery up to it for back up power supply

I was thinking of buying one too but said if I can build it,They will come. And low& behold they are comming. As I have always said,"Why Buy something when I can build it for cheaper.

The cheapster in me is tempted to build one like that myself but I really don't need the frustration with the hubs deployed and my broken ankle plus my screaming toddler! lol I don't think it's priced too bad compared to fancier cabinet style incubators BUT I don't know how well it would work! Nothing like wasting money on something that needs to have constant babysitting....like my Brower *cough* *cough*

All ya need is some duct tape right??? I have my duct tape on stand by all the time but it's a pretty fleur-di-lis pattern I picked up at Target. Nothing like pretty duct tape!! So you had 18 make it to lockdown and you have 10 out and the other 8 are pipped??? My goodness you're doing fantastic!!! What are you hatching in again?

It' purty too isn't it? lol I'm all for supporting a small business I just need to find someone that has used one of their incubators hmmm...

About the batteries: I got smart and started using the LED light on my iPhone to peek since all I have to do is charge the sucker up when it dies. Matter of fact the iPhone light actually works pretty darn good to candle with! My flashlight battery died and I tried it on a whim. It's the light that the camera flashes with so it's nice and white and darn bright! It's really tiny too so just putting it up to the end of the egg it lines up great without me having to cup the beam with my hand. Who would have thunk it??
