Silkie thread!

Don't they look like a bunch of cotton balls glued together?

I have a question for you awesome guys

I just hatched out several silkie chicks and have half a dozen partridge. The partridge coloring is so different in each chick. What should it look like?

I think seeing a difference in all of you partridges color wise as chicks and beyond is pretty normal and to be expected. They are all individuals just like all of your splashes will have a different pattern as they grow you'll see your partridges being different

Okay, thanks!

If it were me I'd ask her where she got her stock from that your birds came from. Mostly curiosity probably on my part but I like to know. I'd also ask about the breeding background as far as color goes. Ask her what breeding your birds came from. Like blue x blue or what not. Also I'd want to know if she has any unexpected colors popping up in her line. Say for example she might have blue or black breeders but those birds might be split to lavender and you wouldn't know unless you asked!

When I asked the background I was trying to get some insight on the color if I recall correctly. For example if you have a chick that is so dark blue you're wondering if it's black or not. If you know that chick came from black x black breeding well then you know for sure it's black. If it came from blue x blue then you don't have such a clear cut answer but in general you should be able to tell the blues from you blacks by the juvenile stage unless there is something going on.
Say the chick came from a BBS pen but the roosters in that pen are only black or what not over BBS hens or a blue but only over blue and splash girls then you could gather a better guess just based on knowing that. I don't really remember which bird I asked you about lol sorry I'm just using BBS as an example.

Knowing the color back ground of the birds can be more helpful in some situations versus others but it's always good to know especially when you are playing the "What color IS this" game

I haven't had that problem lol but I'd imagine all your vents wide open would help. Also in the driest room of your house if you are having problems keeping the humidity down where you like it. I fit 28 silkie eggs in my Brinsea Advanced when I just loaded it. Sometimes more if the eggs are more on the tall skinny size or more of a pullet aged egg. Sometimes less if they are all from mature silkies that squeeze out mondo silkie sized eggs. If I had some smaller eggs, say I kept sermas as well I probably could have fit 2-3 more without stacking.

Usually on my shipped eggs from set to hatch I get 40% but not my first couple tries... oh boy those were bad...

I have an LG still air with a fan wired in it. It actually kept a more stable temperature than my Brower but that was after adding a fan, weather stripping the gaps and keeping hand towels over the windows! If you have the money go for a 1588 it's great temperature wise and less than a Brinsea. Falls Harvest surprised me on the quality of the Styrofoam versus my LG also the little knob to adjust the temperature is not hard to deal with versus an LG where I had to glue a dimmer switch on it and then just barely breath on it to get it to adjust the temp!

LOVE!!!!! You can just send it on my way! LOL

This is the puffiest one of the bunch. Unfortunately, I had to tape on booties to straighten "her" toes! "She" is the only one of the 14 that has any problems... I guess I just love "her" that much more!

I didn't realize how freakin' pretty your birds are! I need to come visit and try to smuggle away a few

Tell me though... how did you get your silkies to use that ramp? My ramp looks very similar and none of them will use it! My Richie Roo (RIP) would use it but only to find his ladies and shove them down the ramp if they didn't fall down it in the morning after I had put them all up at night

My silkies are going on 5 months, and they've only just finally figured out how to use the walkup. I told ya'll there smart chickens!
