Silkie thread!

Sorry for the quality of the pic! Used my phone. Here is one of my 6, 6 week old silkies.

Help!! I just found one of my 4 1/2 wk old Silkie chicks bending his head back weirdly against his back or craning his neck forward in the brooder!!! Took him out & he's still doing it. Eyes are bright, breathing steady, was fine 2 or 3 hours ago when last checked. I'm thinking he may have bumped his head, we tried to give him some vitamin E (I heard you do this for wry neck I think?). Currently I'm holding him, trying to keep his head normal. He peeps and opens his eyes now and then but mostly seems to be trying to sleep.
What could be wrong with my little one??

I have another one I would like any useful imput about. She's a hen. Her mother is a blue partridge and the roo is the same with alot of red leakage. I don't know his line but the mother I hatched from cjsilkies line. This hen was bathed yesterday so it's the best she's gonna look. Trimmed nails and a little evening up of the top of her poofy head. The lack of feathers over her face is natural for her. I didn't cut it away. Need anymore info just ask. She was enjoying her photo shoot like she enjoyed her bath so it's picture heavy.

Put it in a cage by itself, and bring the cage inside. Provide gatorade mixed with water for drinking as well as chick starter. Generally avoid handling the bird as that often will exascerbate the problem. Keep an eye on it, and if it worsens, see if you can get metacam or prednisone prescribed. Add vitamins (baby vitamins without iron are good if you do not have bird vitamines available) to the food or gatorade water.

Do not force its head into the correct position.

I have a question about silkies. Can i put them with my other chickens. I have 6 RIR,5 Barred rocks, 4Slw, and 1 Slw rooster. I want some silkies but if I can't put them with my other chickens I won't get them.. Thanks everyone for any advice.

Mine that are not in breeding pens run together just fine. TYpically the silkies are near the top of the pecking order. The chinese goose is at the tippy top, though. The large fowl barred rocks are definitely below the silkies.

Thank you so much.. I guess this means that I am going to get me some silkies today!!! That just made me super excited. They are going to be about the same age as my other girls so that will work out just fine. Thanks again.

I posted this picture of my splash? silkie a while ago. She was @2-3 months.

A couple of folks thought it would be interesting to see how she developed ... so here she is at 4 months... she's quite dark for a splash, isn't she?
