Are you Silkies bigger than normal, or does the picture just make them look larger?

The wide angle lens makes the rooster appear larger than the rest of them. They are all normal size, a little bigger than bantam Cochins.

The way that pic was shot, the goat in the background looks like the roo could kick his fanny. It makes the roo look huge. lol Those are beautiful birds. Does the sand help keep their feet clean?

All of my runs have sand, and it does help. The white Silkies feet still get a little dirty though. The other colors fare a little better, especially the buffs, which are the color of sand.

I am new to breeding and wouldn't mind some guidance. I got some eggs from Mary Robbins and they are due to hatch on 9/15. Can I breed those to each other and do ok, or do I need to get some other silkies from another line to breed? I have read about line breeding, but don't totally understand it.

I posted on the disease board but didn't get any responses. Have any of you with silkies seen this before?

Have noticed white spots on comb over the last month or so on this Roo only. I've never seen any mites/bugs and use DE regularly in Sand Floor Run/ Wood chip coop.

Does not come off with water. Think it's something I should be concerned about?

Thanks!

Not sure what that could be. For the heck of it, could you dab sime iodione/betadine on it to see if it dries up?

I had fowl pox here at one time and my boy had some spots on his comb and was told that the iodine would help dry it up. Definitely keep checking around for help to be on the safe side.

Whitish spots on head-my 2.5 yr old blacks did this recently & I couldn't find any parasites so assumed it was sun damage or else they were fading from age, possibly going to molt after broody period.......Do silkies molt like normal feathered chickens ?

Thanks, Tropical Chickies - I'll pick up some iodione/betadine and see if it makes any diff

appychick - I'm not sure - I'm still in my first year with these guys and haven't seen a molt yet (maybe I'm about to?)
