Have any of you ever been to one of Mr. Jim Adkins Heritage Poultry Intensive workshops? There's one coming up only an hour away from where I live and I was thinking about going.

I have 24 silkie eggs in lockdown as of tonight. I have hatched silkies before, but this hatch I have one egg already pipping. It is only day 18! I'm sure everything will be fine and this one's just eager to make an entrance into the world. Anyone else had this happen?

Hello fellow Silkie lovers..

I'm rather new to Silkies and chickens in general but we've quickly ended up with 6 Silkies! All bought from breeders and hoping to be great qaulity for my daughters to show not only in 4H but in the actual chicken shows here in Florida.

Hope no one minds me sharing pictures of our little flock of Silkies. The only two I'm pretty sure of gender is the two Splash ones, the rest I have NO CLUE on I have my thoughts but that doesn't mean much from a newbie. The two splash are both 3 months the others I'm not sure the exact hatch dates.

only missing pictures of two of them and that's because their photo shoot didn't go as well..LOL.. those two kept wanting to sit on the camera instead of in front of it.

I have a question for all you seasoned silkie owners. It looks like I'm going to have to thin my banty flock and reduce it to 2 cochin hens and 1 silkie rooster. Are those two hens going to be way overbred? I don't know if I can add anymore, as the ones I'm getting rid of came to me from a breeder and it appears they're sick with something and I don't want to risk adding sick birds. Are silkie roosters generally good with a small number of females? The rooster is just about 4 months old.

Sooo... Random question, but at what age can you really get an idea of how well a silkie chick conforms to the breed standard? We have a buff that's dark/smutty but s/he is only 4 weeks old and from what I understand, they lighten up as they molt?

We got a splash and didn't notice thanks to the heavy feathering on his feet that one of his toes is...well, either half developed or he had an old injury that healed badly, because it looks scabbed over. Basically, only a tiny tip of the nail pokes out and it's facing upward instead of curving downward. ON top of that, the tips of his toes are pink.

What on earth could cause its toe to get twisted like that? Is it genetic or just an injury? Should I soak it to try to clean it up and see what's going on? I really can't tell if it's a deformed toenail or if he twisted it himself.

My Roo Mr Sammie..just started crowing...thinks he is about 5 ft tall and is as proud as proud can be!!

This is Miss Abigail...I am pretty sure she is really a she...but she is the sweetest little girl and will run to you when you call her name!

This is Miss Annabell...she is out little air head! She is so cute and a little um..how do I put this...flightly! We had to trim her crest...she kept mising the ramp...now she sees everything! Again I am hoping it is really a girl..any thoughts?
