You probably already know this, but the lav/splits can hatch out chipmunk and turn blue or black.
This little guy is now 7 weeks and is solid black or blue, not sure which!

I don't know, I just read it on the Lavender silkie thread and the lady I bought my eggs from said she had lav/split in the pens. Maybe it was just bad info.

Don't believe there are any lavs in this bunch. I somehow, down the road, expect the Partridge to start coming through later on in the hackles with my two. Seems someone either on the Partridge thread, here, or the ASBC told me that, but now I can't remember who or where it was.

This is a photo of that same chick a week and a half ago. Now all the light color around it's eyes is gone.

I have a question or two about paints.

I have 2 sizzles that are white and they have black spots. They started out with just 1 spot but everytime they molt they get another black spot or two. Does this mean they are paints? The ones i've seen have more spots even as chicks.

My second question is if I put them with a black roo would that make paints since they have some black spots already? That is with a black silkie not another sizzle or frizzled silkie.

Ok, a third question,

If I keep putting them back with a silkie roo (the offspring that is) will that eventually breed out the frizzle gene?

Could somebody that has bred paints explain this to me please. Pretty Please

Yup, that's what both of mine looked like weeks ago, now all blue and a very dark blue. I had been told like Chickendales has said, that they will get some red/brown coloring in around the neck and maybe wing area as they get older. We'll see??

Hi everyone & OMG just gorgeous pics of the most FLUFFIEST chooks Ive ever seen.
ep.gif

I put my hand up as being VERY new to the chicken scene. I have 3 bantam girls 4weeks old
waiting to go into the coop. (They are not silkies.)
I bought a Rooster from the animal welfare here in Australia. They said he is a Chinese Silky.
I'll post some pics. He is really tame. He lets u pick him up & would sit on your lap for
hours for a pat if you let him.
One thing about him is the feathers on his feet. The quills are very thick & tough. Do I need to
trim them?? They are under his feet as well. I havent had a real good look but it looks like
the feathers are growing out the bottom of his feet???
Anyway here are the pics to determine his breed.

No feet pics tho.
