Silkie thread!

Bart Pals.... I do have to give him credit for at least coming around and explaining his decisions. I showed under him at Hutch 3 years ago and it was the same story. *** Something I really didn't feel was fair was the placing of my buff hens. The one he placed as BV was an obvious duckfoot on the right. I brought her anyways knowing it. He didn't DQ her like the rest, which she deserved. I pointed it out to him afterwards and he still didn't change the placings. Vicky had an awesome buff pullet along that deserved to place over both of them. He should have at least knocked mine down and given her RV.

That's interesting. I guess it goes to show you that you never know what a judge is going to do.

Here are two of my Silkie mix boys. They hatched from eggs I bought from a local guy, and I thought the eggs were purebred, but oh well. At least they've turned out to be pretty handsome. They both have tiny crests, dark skin, 5 toes/toe nails a foot, and feathered feet. Although their foot feathering isn't very nice :\\.

I'm not sure what to call the base color of Boy #2. I'm thinking it's blue?? Comments/opinions welcome. I know they're just mixes but you know

.. I'm not sure yet whether I'm going to keep them or sell them. I really like Boy #2. Depending on how big they get (they're still chicks, around 10 weeks old I think) I might just add them to our mixed free range flock. I have pics of my baby Buttercup/Silkie mix who is 3 weeks old now which I need to get uploaded too.

Took a few pics with my Droid while at the barn this afternoon......

Not silkies...but couldn't resist. Got a few new additions on the waterfowl lately: a pair of sebastopols from Jenny Linton, a young pair of brown africans from Lance Ewert, 5 lavendar muscovies from Kurt Dullinger, and 2 pair of exhibition rouens from Lance Ewert.

Lol that was the gawky cockerel you've seen all summer. He's finally filled out a bit. The 2 darker blue pullets that I showed as well are full sisters to him. The splash cock that I showed is the father to them. The mother was one of the black pullets from my show string last fall. He is an absolutely gorgeous bird. He does however have just a hint of silver starting to show up in the hackles.

This is that young trio just a couple months ago:
