Yesterday, I hatched two PolishxSilkie chicks. (Polish roo, silkie hen) I brought in one of my silkie hens (I feared that it was too cold to put the chicks outside with her, plus the dangers of the other chickens...) and she's been sitting on them for about three hours. I heard that silkies were good mothers, even when not broody. None of my silkies were broody, so I brought in the sweetest one... She doesn't seem to mind them under her, but someone told me that she was supposed to act happy and sing to them if she wanted them... She's just sitting there... I even gave her a grape (one of her favorite treats) and she only nibbled at it a little bit... I tried to get to the chicks a little bit ago and she huddled down and wouldn't let me... Was putting a silkie on them a good idea? Would it be better to just raise them myself, or can the silkie hen do it? And does anyone know what the chicks might end up looking like?
