Not sure. They do a certain % of what you have. If you have several breeds, it has to be a mix of breeds. I grab a couple birds from each pen.

Every state is different if just testing to go to shows or to enter the surv. programs. But, I believe SundownWaterfowl is right. The standard for NPIP Testing is the same for every state. Inorder to get started in NPIP you have to test your entire flock and then close it. You are put on a trial NPIP Status for 1 year to make sure your flock is clean. During that first year the state tester comes out every three months and only tests 30. When your trial period is up you are officially in the program and when they come out to test you only have to test up to 30 birds and that's it if your flock remains closed. But, if you add any eggs, chicks, or adult fowl even if it is NPIP certified you can be subjected to an entire re-test of your flock. Reason being NPIP runs different programs and I don't know if you all have noticed but, not every tests for Avian Influeza and Salmonella Pullorum. Some states only test for the S/P so if you do both you have to be careful when purchasing NPIP to makes sure your seller is doing both. Or, the state will come back and retest all over again etc....

Sooo complicated but, boy did I learn alot from my Dept of Ag. and the Director of NPIP this year
