Silkie thread!

Does anybody have a picture of a 6-8 week old silkie hen so I can compare mine to it to see if its similar because I can sell a rooster if I have a rooster...and I don't want a rooster as I'm not allowed to have them in this city... or what can I look for at that age? or is there no way to tell and I'll have to wait until it crows or lays like I have read on here?

or i have red silkies that are 8.5 weeks old and im sure 1 of mine is a rooster becuase its bigger then the rest but also i can see the comb coming in on the top of his head an the rest i cant see a comb

So, I brought home a trio of paint silkies (because of course I needed more), plus two of their chicks. I could go on all day about how cute they are, but I'll get to my point instead! I was told the hens were laying. This was not a joke! I no more than got her home and into the run and out came an egg! Unfortunately one of the other chickens was really curious about it and put a peck mark through my first egg. The last two days, I have gotten two more eggs, so she is faithfully laying an egg a day.
My question-
Obviously I don't want to start incubating my 2 eggs yet. I have no idea how many she's going to lay, and I don't want to make the others sit too long. How many/ how long would you collect before you began incubating?

My first eggs! This is very exciting!!

And I save as many as I can, put the date on each one and have a "staggered" hatch. There are threads on here about this. It works for me. You will have chicks hatching each week. Really fun for me..

Stop turning the first batch as the hatch date gets closer. Continue to turn the other eggs. Most people panic at LOCKDOWN and do not want to open the bator or they run a hot shower and carry the bator in the bathroom for humidity. I just turn eggs fast as I can and shut the lid! I notice my broody hens do not have a Lockdown per say. They still come out to eat and drink up until the hatch.

I am so excited for you getting Paints! I want some too. Maybe by spring. Keep collecting those eggs. I will be following your progress.
