The eggs are under an broodie hen. Do they get food and water RIGHT after they hatch? What is lockdown? Should I bring them inside? How do you stop them from drowning in the water? Someone please tell me what to do.

You can put some food in the nest if you want; they actually do not NEED anything for about 3 days, but it won;t hurt to have food there. Use quail no-drown waterers, or put marbles/pebbles in the base of the regular chick waterers. Lockdown is when hatching with an incubator--no more turning, keep door closed for the last 3 days of incubation. If you are using a broody, let her manage it.

Also, make sure that the newly hatched babies won't be able to stumble/fall out of the nest. Some chicken aunties and uncles don't seem to be very..um..loving, sometimes.

(At least not my LF, the Silkie roos however have been wonderful so far with the day old babies.)

The boxes are on the floor of the coop.
