Silkie thread!

I wait for the photo to speak about the black colored rooster.
Black is only pure black when the groundcolor is pure "E/E" reinforced by "Ml/Ml" is a black-pigment intensifier.
When the groundcolor is unpure for example "E/eb" and there is no black-pigment intensifier you can have a Black leaking Silver (when based on Silver) or leaking gold (when based on gold).
A white Silkie from paint should be a Dominant white normally based on groundcolor Black. Dominant White is not such a good inhibitor of pigment (better for black not so good for red).
For improving "white" you better breed recessive whites.
Possible you intend by "purifying the white base" that brassy shade on paints ? This is an other matter !

Yes I was speaking of working on the brassy shade in the paints.....i have the recessive white figured out but i have a dominant white for paints....i was wondering if i bred her to a silver based black if that would be a better choice of black....?????

I'll be giving that a try in the next month or so. I've got a really leaky silver/black male from paint. Actually Sonoran came up with that idea.

I love this color. I have a similiar colored pullet but slightly darker. I do not have a roo of a similiar color. What color roo would you breed to her? She is about 4 months old in this picture.

I was doing a lot of reading up before buying the Brinsea. I did a lot of reading on the Hovabator as well, and for the most part, everyone thought it was a great incubator! I'm sorry you were having trouble with it. It does seem like no matter what I do, though, that I'm with YOU-- I can't win! LOL I'm really crossing my fingers that the new incubator I am getting is idiot proof.

I know one thing about myself- and that is, I can break the unbreakable or mess up the unmessable. If that's even a word... anyway, I have talent! hehe!

Hawkeye good choice of incubators thats what i had for my first bator and if i can successfully hatch silkies in it it must be pretty idiot proof...lol..i ran some fine tubing into the bottom water channels and would squish a syringe full of water in there every few days so I didnt have to keep lifting up the lid and just before lockdown i would put a couple pieces of sponge in the channels to make the surface larger for evaporation to raise the humidity...worked really well and i had about 75% hatch rate on shipped eggs in November of last year!!!! Sorry to hear your babies are still under the weather....the journey must have really stressed the little dears.....hope they are better tomorrow...Chris

There is a whole entire thread on the Brinsea Octagon Eco20, and reading that- and reading all the reviews, everyone tells me it is definitely idiot proof. That is AMAZING that you got a 75% hatch on shipped eggs! WOW!

I often read the incubation page and read over and over so many threads on how hard it is to have a good hatch from shipped eggs. As far as my new incubator goes... I'm going to love it, and hug it, and call it George. hehe!! (kidding) I was hoping my black pullet would escape without getting sick-- she was doing great until today. But she got her shot today along with the other two... and the others I think are already doing better. She may only need a couple days and be fine too. Obviously I caught it early, since I've been watching her like a hawk. I debated separating her from them.. but she came with them, so figured it wasn't worth it. So you first started out with the Brinsea, and now what do you use?

A Baytril shot each day and they are doing better. No more runs! Much more perky.

Thanks for asking! I had only two sick and now the 3rd one that was with them is coming down with it today, but I think we'll get her shaped up quick.

That's good to hear that there doing better:D

Thank you!

I think you need to get some eggs in there and test it out!!!

I have one crazy & wild showgirl chick and 5 more pips! This little one wasn't even pipped when I checked on it no longer than an hour before and he is now knocking all the other eggs around!

Im betting on Snow White...Cody has a girl who looks just like that and we kinda thought maybe a boy but she just has a longer neck and i think it makes them look more roosteree...no matter what its a beautiful bird your daughter can pick them well.

Thanks Chris. I hope its Snow White. I am assuming its just her crest starting to fill out at this age, shes maybe just over 4 months, other silkies I've had their crests start filling in about this age. BUT either way Snow is staying and won't go anywhere.
