Silkie thread!

Beth G. :

Oh okay gotcha, well if you can't find them sometimes I suggest to people to hatch them and then keep what you need/want and share/sell the rest

But, either way I am sure you will see a nice one up sooner or later. Sometimes as they grow out and have not hit one year of age, breeders decide to sell them at like 9months to 1 year. So there is still hope!

Nope, don't have an incubator. My silkies are purely pets, so once my silkie pen is full, I got to stop there. Which means only one or two more!
Not going to be easy to stop! LOL But I have a really sweet girl now, and she seems to get most of my attention, so don't want to over do it.

Thanks.

Beth G. :

I took the Momma's and their kids out to the garden to play today. It was a beautiful 55 degrees and sunny at my house which is really unusual for New England this time of year. All I can say is they all had a blast playing in the garden getting dirty

I did feel bad for the men but, I could not risk having them mate with the wrong color if ya know what I mean

So I promised them tomorrow I would let them out to play in the garden separately but, only if they get along!

Do breeders have tricks to get a "show pose" for the judge like in dog showing?
hmm.png

Yes some do work with them to get them to pay attention and get into a pose. I personally have not worked on this but, I know Pennie1 has and I belive she may even have postings or videos showing this

The trick with showing is just getting a bird used to noise, touching, etc. get them very docile and unaffected by noise that you may find at show (people talking, dropping things, loud noises from kids) a good trick is TV noise and radio noise, record something off TV and play it for the birds off and on, drop tin pans and stuff. get them used to random noise so they aren't stressed. Also getting them used to being in a small cage that they'd be in at a show, in those cages they are likely to stay pretty still and just chill out. the main thing with judging isn't posing like with dogs, judges will take the birds out look them over, and watch them while in the cage. you can be faulted for a very antsy bird that is stressed so has the wings hanging low and is panting, that panics when picked up and makes judging it difficult.

Ohh Oops I thought she was just talking about teaching them how to pose like for a pictures or something
