The only red in the comb is his wattles, and thats fine, even bearded silkie boys have a bit of wattle they just shouldn't be large - his are fine.
That comb is a DQ though, thats looks like a rosecomb, definitely not the small round smooth walnut comb a silkie should have.

Yes, while we're talking silkie roos and combs, would you guys mind chiming in on this guy? I was told he'd been shown to a judge and that while he's pretty red, he's just mulberry enough to be breedable. Also, is his comb too big?
I don't plan to show him, but I've got him with a lovely new pullet that's probably show quality so I'm hoping for nice babies. What do you think? Here's a so-so pic of her, just for fun.

oh okI purchased him from a bycer at a swap as a chick, do think he's worth breeding anyways or I should get rid of him? Thanks for the help![]()

His comb is too red, but its not bad. He has a few more hard feathers in the tail than preferred but again not bad. If the pullet has really good dark skin and comb color - he should be okay to breed.
ok out of 15 eggs only 4 hatched and i have a very weak one due to a hard hatch since it piped at the small end do not know what is going on why the last 2 hatch have been so bad all my other hatches resulted in 90% to 100% hatch rate but these last 2 times have been horriable and i do the same thing i did before when i get good hatch rates the only thing i did different this time is use a turner instead of turnning by hand but i do not see that that would be a problem the turner woorks great just confused. The one weak i am afraid it will be gone by the time i get home from work. i bought eggs that were suppose to be BBS i wound up with one black two that are nothing but gray and one that is yellow with 2 spots of black on it and it is the one that is weak.
Were they shipped eggs? I got one shipment of 2 doz. once and none hatched because they had such a hard journey. You never know. Hope the little guy makes it. Sounds like it could possibly be a paint. We'd love to see photos of the survivors.ok out of 15 eggs only 4 hatched and i have a very weak one due to a hard hatch since it piped at the small end do not know what is going on why the last 2 hatch have been so bad all my other hatches resulted in 90% to 100% hatch rate but these last 2 times have been horriable and i do the same thing i did before when i get good hatch rates the only thing i did different this time is use a turner instead of turnning by hand but i do not see that that would be a problem the turner woorks great just confused.
