I can't believe it, I found the yarn I need! :ya Twenty + years ago Red Heart called it Powder Blue, now they called Light Blue and the color matches perfectly.
If I couldn't find the yarn I was going to work it like you suggested. I would make the sky look like it was a storm coming. I would blend it in have the stormy sky behind the masts of the ship.
YAY!!!!

You may know this, but I'll say it anyway in case it helps someone: look at the two yarns side-by-side under daylight. Not a "daylight" light inside, but actual sunlight.

A good way to check is to take a strand of each yarn, make a few wraps around your hand. If you can't tell the difference in daylight, they should be good to use together.

A few minutes ago I was changing colors on the afghan. If I counted right I'm using 16 different colors. I don't know if it will be called a Tapestry Afghan or a Graphghan. What ever it is it will end up being big and colorful.
Do we get to see a picture of your afghan?:pop

Here’s a throw that just got finished up today. It was interesting joining because the red strips were worked first, then the blue joined rounds worked individually between strips of red:

It beautiful! I love that pattern. It looks like if you wanted to make it larger it would be easy to add on.

We have a friend who lost her husband during Covid. He had been a shipmate of my Hubby. I sent her one of my afghans for a Christmas present a few years ago.
