Hi,

Thanks I know how frustrating it can be with the infertile eggs. One thing you really need to do is be a good fluffy butt inspector. Remember dirty bumms can make it not happen

If you have a trio that you can get away with Not showing this year but, are nice enough to for breeding I suggest you trim all around the backside on both the girls and the boys, make it so when they go there is nothing there to grab the mess on the way down. Also be sure all your babies do not have mites or lice and irritating them. This can have alot to do with infertility and making the sperm count low for real no joking. If I am serious about a few to breed I basically mess with the boy every day for a week prepping him for breeding and the girls get a trim job too. I wish you luck with your fertility and if it doesn't happen check out a youtube video on Artificial Insemination. I know I get alot of chuckles and weird looks but, its very different since everything is really done externally and you don't need fancy equipment all you really need is time, a good trimming, and a clean plastic spoon! I know other folks go for the pippets but in reality you really dont need them.

Oh and yes mine are in the woods but, with either myself or my livestock guardian dog out there to watch b/c the redtails love silkies!!! :'(

Yeah, I check his fluff nearly every day and pull out yuckies. I keep talking myself into doing the AI and then I always find some reason not to do it that day. HA! I need to just DO it that way I'll know I'll have babies soon! Thanks for the tips, I'm taking note, for sure. How often do you have to do that? Every 3 or 4 days?? Or can you go longer? You're so lucky you have a LGD that will protect your silkies. I'm literally out in the open plains-- hardly a tree in sight and no place to hide. Mine would be hawk bait in 5 minutes flat. As it is-- we have two hawks that are constantly diving near the coop checking things out. My birds just go under the coop and wait it out. They are penned in with a dog run and I just took the tarp off a bit ago. I'm wanting to build a more permanent pen with a roof on it. My turkey was just attacked by the hawks last week and they tore a hunk out of her. She was lucky that she got away, plus she's a big girl. They might not have realized when they went in for the dive that she was that big. She's fine. But her back is still healing.

Thank you, Hawkeye! My wonderful husband made it for me for Christmas. I have the middle shelf out since I'm not using it and the top shelf has about 3 doz of my own eggs in a staggered hatch. We call it the cat TV. Hopefully I'll be in chick heaven! Let us know how the AI goes! You'll make us all braver!

Well, he did a fabulous job!!! I'm using the Brinsea Oct 20 Eco-- so it's on the smaller side and doesn't have a lot of height to it. People tell me they can hatch bantams in it just fine, but the LF chicks are a bit harder. I don't have a hatcher, and everything I'm trying to hatch are bantams, anyway. Yeah, I need to get brave and just do the AI already!! I'll be sure to report how it went when I do it! LOL
