Silkie thread!

Thank you! Another one has hatched! Looks light colored but still wet.
My birthday is Thursday, but today feels like my birthday!!!
This is a wonderful early birthday gift!

Yeah! Happy Birthday to you!!! Most of my birds came home yesterday (on Easter) and my bday is next week, so I know just what you mean!

I am not very familiar with Porcelain but I know porcelain has the lavender genetics...So I'd got for say Lav roo and lav and porcelain hens and work from there. Lavender (Self blue) bred to Lav will give you only lavender chicks where as blue bred to blue will give you blue and splash chicks.

So even my little blue hen might come in handy somewhere along the way for lavender, correct? If I were to really start from scratch? This hen was sold to me as a lavender, but she is clearly NOT lavender. What is a split lavender? Maybe she has the lavender gene but just came out blue?

I will definitely do more research on breeding silkies in general and make sure I have a good idea of what I'm doing because as of now, I do not.

And I like to do things right when I start a project.

<------me sitting and waiting 17 more days!!!!!!!!!

BIG HUGE Congrats!!!! Are these your own eggs or were they shipped in from someone? I'm still not having any luck on hatching. :(

Thank you! They are my own eggs. I've been tempted to buy shipped eggs, but I don't have an incubator, as my bantams are my incubator, and I would hate to risk the eggs. I've been wanting an incubator though, so I can try some shipped eggs, but I really don't want to feed the addiction much more! LOL I hope these babies keep me happy all Spring and Summer!

I'm sorry you aren't having any luck hatching.

I know that's so discouraging. Are they fertile eggs?

[ Take Two! ]

Today, as it is after midnight here, I am expecting silkie chicks once again! This time, I did candle the eggs, and they are fertile and making.

I'm a little confused as to why the first eggs weren't fertile and these are? I really hope Koda is the dad and not Cloud!

Great news!!!

Sharing a few more...now that they got their own coop, I find myself spending a little too much time with them. What can I say...I love my Silkies!

I just love this picture...I think I captured well the little chat they had going.

And the funny picture of the day...

Made me smile!! I spend way too much time watching my silkies!

I had these 6 babies born last Friday and Saturday! The little Black one in between the Partridges, wasn't too keen on the photo shoot. They were rudely awakened by my noisy camera, and I swear I saw some "baby stink eyes" in there!

Great shot! My always pile in the corner when I bring the camera out!
