Silkie thread!

If I want Splash, and I already have black, what should I get? Blue right? I'm no good at genetics and I can't seem to find where it was explained a while back.

1) Blue x Blue: This will produce 25% black, 50% blue, 25% splash.
2) Black x Blue: Produces 50% black and 50% blue.
3) Black x Splash: You'll get 100% blue.
4) Blue x Splash: Produces 50% blue and 50% splash.
5) Splash x Splash: This will give you 100% Splash.

Thanks! I will definitely look marneypoo/mintujenkins up for hatching eggs. Looks like you guys have some nice birds from her. :)

Beautiful silkies! Her name is marneypoo on here. I've gotten several beautiful silkies from marneypoo.

I had a lady come by today DETERMINED to get a "pair" of silkies from me!
I simply don't like all these people coming around asking for the silkies.
My plan was to have the chicks for the enjoyment, not to turn around and sell them.
However, once they're older, and I know who's a boy and girl, and what colors I have.
I was planning on picking out one, at least, for myself to keep.
Then, whatever is remaining, I was planning on trying to find them homes locally.
But before they even laid eggs and sit on them, I've had people interested.
All I have to say is I can't remember everyone that's asked.
And I can't guarantee all these people a "girl and boy."

I don't even know why this upsets me so, but it does?! It's just not my day!

When someone asks, simply tell them that you have nothing at this time, but they can check back in say 6 months. They are the one wanting birds, let them do the work remembering, and do not feel like you are obligated to provide birds that you do not want to sell. You can be polite, and leave the door open for future sales (if you want) without obligating yourself.

Think of it this way: would you go up to someone and tell them that you like their new sofa so much that you want to buy it from them?

Sonoran Silkies. Thank-you. What's the scoop on Rainbow Silkies?

Scifisarah.....RIRJen has Silkies also.....I believe she's located in Holt,MI......I don't think she sells hatching eggs, but she will have chicks for sale.

If people come by and start pestering you. Just teel them that at this moment NOTHING is for sale. If they are interested for a later date, just offer to take their name and number and if you have what they are looking for. You will call them! No promises, no guarantee's. Just say I might keep all of them, BUT, If you change your mind. You will put them on a list.
This is the way I would handle it. Not only are people flaky, but sometimes they just want to see how far they can push. Don't bite on the hook their dangling.
My rule of thumb is Quack, Quack (be a duck) and let it roll off you.
As nice as it is to be nice to other people. You hatched your babies for you. Not anyone else.
If you have a change of heart at a later date,,, well then you will give them a call.
Don't let anyone push you around.
Those are your babies. You make the call, NOT THEM!
Hope my input is helpful to you. I have tried to please the world at one point. It's a big mistake. Don't do it.
Again, your babies, your call. Or better yet you might call, please leave your number

Performed my first chicken bath today, of course, with Elliot, my Silkie avatar - and just a mini-bath, primarily to clean his HEAVILY feathered feet. Turns out, everything I've read about bathing Silkies is true! It was all I could do to prevent him from laying in the warm water. He seemed quite taken with the lavender scented baby shampoo I was using in the bath - intended to relax us both. But the funniest part was with the blow dryer. He opened his wings for full coverage even though only his legs and the tips of his wings got wet. Also, he insisted on the full facial blow. He snuggled into his towel and preened as we worked. They really ARE quite silly birds. He's been running around the house singing ever since!!
