Silkie thread!

Wow, you have beautiful birds! Thank you for sharing. I know what I want in body style..lol..but even if they don't look like yours, I am loving the one I have, and I have some eggs in my bator now because I fell in love with the breed. Here are some pictures I took this morning..I think it's a splash..well, she is a splash.

She is in with some of my baby Exchequers, and some Ameraucanas that are a bit bigger, they all get along.
When I went out today, her tail looked like a bunny tail..that's why I wanted to get pictures, but while I was out there taking the pics..it didn't show up like one..maybe because I was out there, and she stretched out. I call her...a her... :)
My little Exchequer...has that leghorn attitude look! lol... I see splash on my Silkie here.
5 weeks old today. Too soon to get an idea on the sex?
Had to get the fuzzy butt shot. The Silkie's is more fuzzy than the Exchequer's. Imagine that!

so cute!

Oooohhhh...I think I'd love a silkied BCM. Hmmmm....I'm picturing a black silkie with a coppery breast that lays chocolate colored eggs....(In reality you'd probably get a regular feathered bird that lays light brown eggs

I have what I'm pretty sure is a silkie/Marans cross. Came from an egg marked as a paint that looked silkie, but clearly wasn't. Since I know the breeder has Marans and it acts and looks just like my Marans chicks--smooth black feathers with copper breast and red single comb--plus black skin and five toes, that's what I think happened. I plan to pet it out, but if anyone wanted it for a project, you'd be more than welcome to have it!

Thank you all on the compliments. I will post pics of my babies when hatched. I have a couple of different breeders of Silkies in brooders. Can't wait! Guess I have to. :)
Oh, and you probably can already guess..my Avatar is the chick that I just posted pics of today...man, they grow fast!

I've found the only cure for feeling I can't wait is setting more eggs. :D And I love all your chickies! They are absolutely stunning!!!

Does anyone know of a good online source for first time breeders? I'm interested in it and can't seem to find a really good site.

Also: Can you get show quality birds eventually out of breeding a pq with an sq? I don't necessarily mean in the first generation, but second or third. Do people do that or is that a stupid idea when you could just get two sq and breed 'em? Like, I've been told that the buff silkie I got this morning is only pq. Any hopes for breeding it (not sure if pullet or cockerel just yet, but sure is keeping my lap warm all the same right now <3) and getting sq birds in a not ridiculously far-off gen?

I got serious about breeding silkies last August. This thread has by far been my best source. I read the whole thing. This is also a great article on the subject and there are also other very good articles to read on the same website. http://www.hattricksilkies.net/articles_truth.html The ASBA also has great articles. http://www.americansilkiebantamclub.org/articles.asp
