Silkie thread!

Well, yes and no. You have a pet quality non-bearded partridge cockerel. So, if you are looking for a super fluffy show winning bird, you don't have it. If you are looking for a fine pet, you do.
It is still young can it grow to be fluffy”? If I take a pet quality and breed with show quality and keep doing that each generation will they (the chicks) turn out to be show quality?

Thanks!

It can't be denied this is just a pet quality and will stay as that.
For the breeding eventually yes, with the right selection every generation.
When you want to arrive to high quality do yourself a favor and start at a higher level.

Thanks! I started last year with Buffs and they are at a much higher level. These partridge were given to me so I think I will practice breeding them to make higher quality chicks.

Thanks again!

I didn't know about the issues with them growing too fast. If I have them inside at night I should probably be able to turn it out around now or in a week or so, right? I also can put them in a brooder and seperate them by wire so they can see each other. I know it's a wide gap, so I was just wondering about what the average temperment is. I have successfully integrated my LF over a couple of months or so with wire seperation in the run. But they are older and the younger ones have to be of age to eat layer feed be almost as big as the hens and not sound like chicks anymore. I am hoping that I can just get all of them to the coop at the same time in the end.
Thanks for the input. I will play it by ear, see how things go. If I have to figure something else out I will.
Mine are three wks. now and I'm ready to turn the light out at night because it's so warm in the house. I change the bulb every week or so to lower the temp and prepare them for out doors. I feed medicated chick feed till 4 months. If I have babies in with mature chickens I put the feed in a place they they can't reach it. I think your dividing plan will work fine. I do that with mature birds.

Coconut oil.

I had some lice on my layers and we sprayed melted coconut oil on them and the lice all died. So did the eggs.

We had a lice outbreak in my silkie pen and just treated them with coconut oil again. We will spray/rub coconut oil on the infected areas every other day for a week or so and then give them a bath. Seriously, it works wonders.

This sounds easier than the DE, where do you find it? Is it just for this purpose, or something you discovered on your own? I wonder, if it is smothering those little critters.
