Silkie thread!

I trust the lady I bought them from she is very reputable and known well in the "chicken community". Thanks though, I just wondered if it was stress, since you were so generous with the answers can I ask another? the two ladies are mother and daughter, not sure which is which, forgot to ask. But one is pulling the feathers off the crest of the others. Some people recommend seperating them. They are in a coop by themselves since my other silkies are only 2 1/2 months old and I heard I shouldn't introduce them until they are about 4 months old. Don't want to stress them further though......hmmm, any ideas

Sorry I am just weighing in on this but it seems if I turn my computer off at all, I am 100 posts behind on this thread!

Anyway, when I had some babies (not silkies) in the brooder and they started getting peckish with each other I found a thread that suggested coating the pecked bird with Vicks Salve. I had some in the cabinet, it is easy to get, cheap and best of all, for that case, it worked. You might try "gelling" the crest on the one getting pecked with Vicks. You could give her a new hair style for the time being.

i think my 9 week old might have caught a chill. it was hot so i took her swimming. she loved it but after i took her out and some people wanted to see her so i don;t think i got her wrapped up in time. any comments on what i should do would be appreciated. she is wrapped up on a towel on my lap I'm going to keep her warm and dry her off.

Possibly use a hair dry on low heat... and give some baby vitamins (polyvisol with no iron) to boost her immune system...

i have black silkie bout 3 months old he just started to crow an he sounds funny

Jimmy m: I bet your little silkie sounds adorable. My 6 week old polish, who started crowing recently, is practicing everyday. It's almost as though he announces my arrival in the coop and then wants to talk to me.
Hawkeye: [/B ]thanks for the peepers info & neat picture
ChickenloverWI: sweet pics of your little girl and her chicks
Vyraal: lovely little ball of fluff
Tolosi: good luck! From one Tina to another! Please post pics of your hatch...

Your Silkies are beautiful thanks for sharing your pics. I enjoy my silkies a lot. Does anyone know what colors are crossed to get the splash and the partridge?

You can cross two blues to get splash. Splash is from the blue gene. Here is a chart. You can't cross to get partridge unless the parents carry the partridge genes. Many birds that look black are actually dark blue. :)

The way the Blue gene works in a breeding can be broken down as follows:
1) Blue x Blue: This will produce 25% black, 50% blue, 25% splash.
2) Black x Blue: Produces 50% black and 50% blue.
3) Black x Splash: You'll get 100% blue.
4) Blue x Splash: Produces 50% blue and 50% splash.
5) Splash x Splash: This will give you 100% Splash.
6) Black x black: 100% black
