Silkie thread!

So what color of silkie would you call this? Partridge, columbian, etc.... It is being sold as columbian but I thought those were not so dark in coloring.

Here is some pics of my Columbian Cockerel.

Below is Sunny who is playing Pirate ParrotChickenFace Arrrrrr matey...... Yes he likes to just sit on my shoulder so I have learned tonight and groom me.... ugh lol.

Is there a chance they said "potential" BQ?  I sell chicks for more that have no obvious DQ's and I do tell buyers that they are potentially BQ or SQ depending on how they mature out.

I just doubled checked their ebsite and it does state breeder quality. If you liked I can forward the website to you via pm and maybe you could make sure I am not miss reading their wording? Its okay if you don't. I don't want to ruffle any feathers or anything like that.

I am not 100% sure but I think this is what they call Tortishell, and its a cockerel. Long hackles, getting long in the cushion already, boy stance, and that shade of red is a boy color...Its usually 'made' by mixing a gray with autosomal red X partridge,(but there are other similar birds that just randomly pop up out there too I've seen) but this bird has some really enhanced red, so there is something else in there enhancing the mahogany....but it is in 'essence' a mutt color, but there are some people who are trying to recreate the color....

I am so excited!

With the partridge talk, I wanted to add...

I bought this girl as a Porcelain from Birds and Eggs; she was hatched from Bobbi Porto eggs.
And after I got her, everyone said she was too dark to be a Porcelain.
Then one day I was talking to Bobbi, and she said she was a Self-Blue Partridge.
Thoughts?

I also plan to hatch eggs from her with this boy I bought as a Porcelain.
Wonder what I'll get? I'd love to have more like my boy.

Yes shes a lavender based partridge...Micah looks more like a lavender based partridge than a porcelain to me as well....I think they would produce very similar looking chicks, definitely a breeding I would try.

SO, I am very sad tonight... I recieved some silkies eggs from two lovely woman in the egg swap room, and I have had them in the bator for 7 days... i just candled and had to get rid of the whole batch... over half were duds, and the rest had the blood ring... They arrived with detached air cells but I was hoping for at least 1 or 2 to do something!! Very upset... I know most of you show your birds and they are beautiful, I fell in love with the breed and wanted some to add to my small flock as pets for my kids... I don't know if I should even try it again!!

She is just so gorgeous!!! She does look a bit in between porcelain and partridge but I don't see any pencilling. They should make some beautiful babies and you will also get 25% self-blue. :)
