Silkie thread!

[COLOR=800000]Your guy is out of buff it looks like, possibly a buff X partridge...something has given him the inhanced red on the wing bows, so it is only speculation....but I would put him more as a buff than anything.  Its hard to tell though with a picture and not knowing the birds background at all, but  I see no evidence of actual penciling on your guy, though even on Sherb its hard to see his penciling in a picture but in person you can see it.

Sherbert was hatched from eggs that come out of a Partridge X Blue partridge pen, the roo he come out of was a bright flame red/orange...Sherb himself is cream based, with red/orange and darker cream penciling in the hackles, wings, back...also he has splashings and penciling in a light blue (can really see it in his tail, even lighter almost lavender in his under color and wings)

Very likely came from partridge to something else. He did not separate his colours, and I knew that when I got him. He mostly had blues and partridges with a few blacks. I didn't see any other buffs, but that doesn't really mean much.

I am using Steve in a sizzle project next year.

Hoping to get a new rooster for the silkies. Either a partridge or blue male. I can't decide which colour I like more. Maybe I should go blue partridge ;)

A breeder who shows told me that the judges prefer a dark blue that is almost black. I have some of those (2 months old); but I think the lighter blue is prettier. She shows the lighter blue- and people fuss at her for "not keeping to the standard" In the APA book, it doesn't really specify. Here is a pic of the light blue and the dark blue (scruffy because they are growing big boy feathers). I prefer the lighter.

I put a dust bat bin out for them and they didn't use it. I dumped it out on the ground and two seconds later I had a pile of feathers dust bathing like crazy! I don't get it!
It took mine a while to get it, but after they did, they use the bins/pools a lot.

Caught the turkey doing it here :p I had a hard time getting soil out of my white birds when I went to take them to show (not silkies) I put regular black earth and sevin dust in it. They self treat for bugs. :)
