Silkie thread!

My babies are growing so fast
love.gif
it seems like the older they get, the sweeter and calmer they are. They let me pet them now without complaint. Sorry about the rough enclosure and dirty feet. It's been pretty much flooding here recently, and after one day of it I had to take them out of their ground pen and quickly fix up this old hutch, safely 3 or 4 feet off the ground. Can't have my sweet babies getting all muddy

Those are definite personality traits I want to pass on. So far all of the babies are better quality then their parents.
A breeder I know said that sometimes lower quality birds throw better quality offspring than high quality parents. It's all about matching the pairs up properly. I guess you can think of it the same way in humans. I know a few really good looking couples that have really ugly kids, and vice versa

Na, just the one in that pic, though I now have three hatched! :D I won't stop stressing until the last one is out of her shell though. She is about 1/3 zipped and I think resting when I checked. I lured Summer off the nest by moving the food in closer. Summer moved just enough to see the zipping egg. Bonus, getting her to eat taught four of the six chicks where the food was! :)

Such a cutie pie!! :love
Love, love, love them!!!:love
That is just hilarious!!:lau
Sooo cute!! :thumbsup
Yay!!!! :jumpy
I really like DE for flies....it rids them in about a day in my laying hen coop.
X2
. They are beautiful!!.. Silkies are so wonderful...I was looking at
the differance between a roo beak & a hen beek.. Not that it is %100...
However if it really %70 that is still pretty high...
I am going to be sad if our flock ends up with to many Roos..
So anyone, do you think at birth is the time to be able to tell a roo
From a hen? Or around 19 weeks.. ???

Well, I now have three Silkie chicks. The last one (4th egg) had a fully formed chick that ran out of steam while zipping. :(. It also had an extra toe growing out of another toe so I figure it probably had more issues than just endurance. Is that a common issue with silkies at all, weird toe growth?

Sorry to hear that.
Same thing happened with our hens once...once that I know of. I found them eating an egg in the coop.. Luckily this wasn't an egg we were planning on hatching. I don't know why they do it?
