Silkie thread!

I got some new photos of my unwanted auction silkie babies. Toe spacing looks good but its the feathering that concerns me. Also the orange hue they have on their heads...

Ms. Rumpy was not happy about me doing a photo shoot for these two, guess that means they won't be competing on this season of Toddlers in Tiaras...

LOVE that picture, by the way.

Looks like somebody has some attitude. lol

My white chick still has that yellow hue to it's feathers, especially the head.
It's about 3 weeks old here.

This picture I took today, about 5 weeks old. The yellow is starting to go away as the real feathers start to come out.

I would imagine that the yellow is pretty normal on a white chick.
How old are your chicks again?

I have two silkies who i have kept in a large rabbit cage for a few weeks. And I will go up before i put my chickens up and let them out but each time the run to me because our turkey steps on them and pecks them and the other chickens just chase them and peck them as well. I know they have a ecking order but I'm nervous to put my silkie pair in with em. Any reccomendations?

My hens didn't accept my silkie chicks until they were almost as large as they were. Then they didn't harass them as much. I have heard on a posting of a turkey attacking a lady's chick and hurt it's eye and rump. I don't know about turkeys and if they will ever accept them maybe someone else has info and ways to get them accepted.

What color do you guys think this chick is? Some form of gray or just one of those random colors that have no name?

I'm really really really hoping it's a girl and end up looking like dad (on right).

I have no clue, I would make a guess at 5 days to 1.5 weeks. They just started to get tail fluff.

But thats the problem. They arent chicks:( I just dont want my silkie pair hurt. Mabye I should just get a seperate pen for the turkey? I just took some watermelon up to them and the tukey was trying to step on their backs and fluff up? Myabye he's cnfused on smething lol maye thinking they are just very small hens.

It sounds like you put your standard guys in a coop at night. Have you tried putting the Silkies in the main coop, with the others, at night (if they would go on a perch, that would be even better)? This way everyone else can hear and smell them all night. If the Silkies will stay on the low perch rung, move your most easy going standards on either side of them.

Keep any lights off- in the main coop- when you do this and if you have a flashlight with a red lens (I have one with multiple colored lenses) that is even better than a regular white light (it doesn't stir up the birds).

Sheila :)

I'm Jealous! LOL I would love to take a trip down there to see her setup. I will definitely be getting some pullets or hens at some point from her, I LOVE her silkies. I feel bad for my little silkie roo being all alone. Fingers crossed I can move him in with my LF chicks that are nearly as big as he is right now, so he has some company.

I could bring back a girlfriend for him!

LOL...Don't tempt me! I would love a couple of splash pullets though!
