This little one is 14 weeks old. I really love her. I helped her hatch - and never regret it. She was 3 days past due and incredibly shrink wrapped. She had only pipped internally - not externally. I will never regret helping her.

I am thinking girl on this one - the comb is very small compared to some of the very easy to spot boys - also 14 weeks

also one of my favourites - she's just so cute :love

Male partridge - I think I may keep him. He's very sweet.

Peepblessed - white chick STILL shows male beak. I am going to watch it closely. :)

I know everyone guessed female on this one not too long ago - but I am just not convinced.

My light skinned boy at the back. He mated the ground yesterday.

I really think this one is a male as well. Any one else agree?

Couple chicks out playing in the leftovers from the woodpile. There are quite a few broody raised silkies - and she gave them up really early. These guys are 4 weeks old.

Aoxa looks like the one everyone thought would be a girl has some streamers. I think the other one you were asking about looks like a boy too. But I'm no expert. :) Beautiful Birds!
Glad you got the Oxine on the way it's great stuff. Wow you have a lot of birds! Hope your two get well soon.

Thank you! Yeah, that one does seem to have streamers. It has a girl beak and girl colouring, but a boy crest. The mother has a crest like that as well, so maybe that;s all that is. I'll give it a couple more weeks to be sure. :)

I do have ton. Lots are being sold soon and some are for meat. I don't have 150 silkes (can you imagine? :drool )

Beautiful babies!  And no, I help chicks when they need it too.

Deb
Thanks Deb! :)

Is there anything wrong with using tiny rubber bands to hold up a silkies crest when they are out free ranging so they can see? Will it damage the feathers or anything?

Would like some feedback on these guys.Went to the flea market today and saw these. They are a gift from my brother in law.I knew what they were but never thought I would find a pair in my area. Here are pics of my cuckoo silkies.Would like any and all information that you would like to share. The lighter one is the rooster and the female is the darker one. Thanks

Your cuckoos are very pretty but you probably already know that the color presents problems that may not be solvable. The red combs and pink sink are a result of the cuckoo coloring. They have nice toe spacing and nice crests but their wings are carried loosely (may just be the photos). They need more tail fullness and backs look long. You don't say how old so possibly they will improve. :)

Some real beauties and fun colors too!! I'm getting less accurate at sexing my own unless they have early comb growth. My best results come from behavior.

Really?

Your chickens are weird! haha. What about just leaving some store bought boiled eggs. It's better than risking your silkie eggs going bad while waiting for her to go broody.
I put in a golf ball originally to influence where they laid.... All my silkies were huddled in a corner freaking out about the golf ball. I couldn't put them near it without them having a panic attack. And about the eggs going bad, I was checking them daily to make sure none were smelly or oozing. Although a boiled egg does seem like a good idea. Ill try that.

Yes it is only her that is sneezing, she sounds congested. It started a while ago, I gave her half the dose of metro for 5 days because she is tiny, that seemed to work. Then she started up again a few days ago, so I did another round of metro but this time full strength, didn't do anything. So I bought Doxy to use. It is already tomorrow anyway so I will start that and see if it helps. It isn't fungal because metro would have cleared it. So hopefully it is just a URI and will clear up with the doxy, I am planning to show her in a month and can't have her sick

I would urge you to not show this bird even if she recovers quickly. Chickens remain carriers even if they are not exhibiting symptoms. It would be a shame if you were to show her and she would pass on an illness to other birds. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
