This little cutie looks like it has the beginnings of a bonnet shaped crest...

Looking for suggestions on who to purchase some silkie hatching eggs from that have the possibility of getting show-quality birds. I like the idea of getting eggs only so I don't have to worry about external disease and parasites. I am just starting out with silkies and not sure which color(s) I would like to work with, but right now would like a good mixture of well-bred birds so when I do decide to start showing, I don't need to get rid of all my birds to start over. I don't want to take a gamble on unknown-seller ebay eggs where half the time the photos of the adults are not even where the eggs are coming from. Suggestions?

I'm a new silkie owner and was worried about being able to sex them. This guy is six weeks old today, between that face and his attitude since he emerged from the egg, I don't think there's a lot of question here.

Does anyone on here know, if I just gave my silkie pullet 5 days of metro and it didn't help her sneezing, but the last one I gave her was at 5pm today, can I start her on doxycycline today or should I wait until tomorrow? Would it be too much antibiotics?

Karen, Catdance Silkies, has beautiful birds and she has started shipping eggs again (stopped when it was hot). Here is her website (http://www.catdancesilkies.com/ )and she is on BYC. Here is a BYC thread for her egg sales (https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/664145/18-silkie-eggs-catdance-silkies-includes-shipping ). You will love her birds, just gorgeous!!

Congrats on your placings!! -Pam Pittman ps- I think I was only there until about 12. I was a 5'7 heavyset brunette wearing a black tee that says "Roller Derby Saved My Soul". Had my 5' blonde best friend with me. We could be twins. Anyway- that was me. Sorry I missed ya!

We shall see then :) Only two have had bonnets, and they both were vaulted skulls. I don't get many vaulted chicks for some reason, though they all have nice sized crests ones mature. Maybe it is because the one throwing the vaulted skulls hasn't laid me a viable egg since my second hatch (in late May).

I will update and see if she/he does have a bonnet crest. Either way, I don't care. I like bonnets. If it doesn't work for show, no big deal :)

Have you posted on the emergency forum?

It all depends on the cause of sneezing. If it is respiratory, antibiotics will help, if it is fungal, it won't. If it is due to the shavings not being pine - changing the bedding will help. Is she the only one with symptoms?
