Silkie thread!

blue partridge on the left. white or splash on the right. This is just a guess.
Who said silkies were nice? Fighting over the beets I gave them from the garden.

Love that image!

Awe.... I only have 10 silkies,,,just pets,,,,,,o wait I have 2 more babys. a dozen silkies!!! I had a blue rooster 4 years old that died of the heat last week. I loved him so and am devasted. I am always so careful and attentive and that day I just missed something. Well I keep telling myself I am only human. I do have a son of his. When I get really sad I go outside and carry his son around. O I better quit talking about this. Time to go check on his son.

The heat can be so relentless. I'm always amazed that any survive. So sorry about your boy.

I would be soooooo sad if something happened to my roo. I love that sweet boy. We had some really hot temps here in GA but, we do have the coop in the shade and it has lots of ventilation. I'm so sorry about your boy and I'm glad you have his son :) He will carry on the legacy

. I'm the same way about my chickens. I'm constantly cleaning the water every evening and morning, fresh food evening and morning, clean run every day (no piling up of poo because of the feathery feet), and a clean coop with plenty of ventilation (cleaned every weekend). I do my best but my best didn't stand a chance against Mother Nature. My heart still hurts thinking about finding them. Mine were still too young to have any babies but I still have 2 Turkens and 4 GLPs left. Love your boy's baby and may be that will ease some of your pain. I know it won't replace him. Hope this heat is over soon and winter isn't so harsh for everyone (with feathers and without).

Peepblessed she is really pretty. Is a silky hen weighing 3 lbs a bad thing, for showing?

Yes, it would be a disqualification. A hen should optimally be 32 oz. A few over or under is acceptable. Sonoran recently posted this great info:

Weight - 20% more or less than the states weight is a DQ. 20% of 36 oz is
7.2 oz, so a cock weighing less than 28.8 oz or more than 43.2 oz should be
disqualified. A bird closer to the prescribed weight should place over one
that is of equal quality, but farther from the weight. The standard is a bit
unclear on a bird that is closer to, but above the weight versus one who is
farther from, but below the weight (equal quality).
•Cocks: 36 oz
•Hens: 32 oz
•Cockerels: 32 oz
•Pullets: 28 oz
