Silkie thread!

So I have a 7 month old partridge silkie, Tiger, that I posted on the what am I boy or girl thread .... I got all girl replies a few months ago .... Well the other day this Silke made a meek crow sound... I couldn't believe it so I took new pictures and posted again .... I got all girl replies until one silkie breeder said SCREAMS BOY .... I am starting to believe its a he but I thought I would ask all of you silkie experts as this was to finally be my 1st hen!

This silkie is a loner bird, very shy, walks low ... doesn't strut around like a boy... does not try to get with the younger girl silkies as the younger silkie boys does etc etc ..... This bird did go toe to toe with my Alpha hen from the other coop yesterday which sadly has me thinking boy...... I am not very experienced with Silkies and all of my other birds are younger, so any tips and comments would be greatly appreciated!

GREAT NEWS!!!!! Tiger SQUATTED for me today!!!

Its a girl .... She is making more hen like sounds now .... so maybe she was just a little confused with that crowing!!!!

:woot I have had a roo squat for me too  We were determined that it was a girl because of it.. Nope.. Wasn't a silkie though, so by 12 weeks it was VERY easy to see that it was a boy.

OMG don't say that!!!! That would totally be my luck!!!

She did curve her tail upwards too ..... So I am hopeful!! and so far no more crowing just some hen chatter from her.....

I agree that it's a girl. She does not have streamers which are usually evident by 7 months. Plus, both of my blue silkie girls (which look just like your Tiger) have crowed! Before and after they started laying eggs. As a matter of fact, my Mysty Blue still crows some mornings when I have the two splash roosters in the house. She is the dominant one obviously-hehe! You might notice Tiger squatting more and more............and start looking for little eggs around the pen!

In my case, I bought paint eggs (again). Seven of the paint eggs hatched. Out of them I have three paint chicks, two of which are lightly marked and four blue chicks.

I believe you have to have a paint parent in order to get paint eggs. And paints don't breed true, so it's the proverbial Forrest Gump box of chocolates, "you never know what you're going to get"!

I ended up with 14 silkie babies in this hatch, not as many as I hoped, but good for me with shipped eggs. I'll post pictures later today. I've been up to my eyeballs with tasks all week. I'm remodeling my kitchen and the contractor will be here on Thursday to demolish the existing cabinets

And yesterday I was busy all day watching chicks hatch

Thanks Deb! I know one day I'll have one. How exciting a new kitchen. My hubs used to Manage a Cabinet company. Cindy

Pictures of my new babies who hatched on Monday and Tuesday. 3 white silkies and 2 blue/black slikies..........

Excuse the poopy papertowels......they're eating real good!

Who knows why they go out in the rain. My silkies get soaked every time it rains. lol Plenty of shelter out there, but noooo! They want to get wet.

In the winter & snow they're wimps. lol

Mud mask, chamomile/aloe shampoo soak, and voile

So adorable and fluffy looking. I was scared to fill the sink up all the way so I just wash with the water running but now I'm going to go this route.

I bet she is super soft!

Adorable!

Since we are posting bath photos. I wasn't allowed to wash them inside the house because my fiance just cleaned

We bathed them all on the deck, in big pots.
I have to say it's kind of cute but kind of sad because he looks like he is going to be dinner. Super sweet.

I do that so soak them in like a skin soothing shampoo, but I normally wash with straight shampoo and rinse with the running water. Mine will sometimes put their heads down, so I only do it when I'm standing there. Otherwise if they are just sitting in straight shampoo I can walk away and let them sit for a few minutes.
