Silkie thread!

Going back through the pictures since last night I just wanted to say that you all have some beautiful silkies. I can't comment on each there are so many. I just love the photos :love

I read something about shipped eggs on BYC. That in the fall there could be lower fertility than in the spring. I suppose that may not be true in California though. ;) But I believe I will try and get some eggs shipped next spring if I get them from any distance. I rarely buy shipped eggs, but the last batch I bought I got 3 eggs that developed. They are due to hatch tonight. :fl They are not silkies though. :(

Peepblessed I thought you stole my little pink toed baby for a split second there lol. They could be twins. Pretty crazy. Thank you for that post. Now I know what to expect from that one.

I have 3 more silkie eggs in the bator-scheduled to hatch TODAY!

1 hatched, the 2nd pipped and the 3rd nothing -yet.
They are from a BBS pen and the first one is a splash.

Hoping the other 2 are blues and ALL of them pullets.

Here are updated pictures of my 6 month old splash cockerel (rooster). He is trying really hard to mate with Mysty Blue but hasn't quite figured it out yet.

If she doesn't peck him away he jumps on sideways.

either way. He's still cute and it will be interesting to see how he turns out.
I had a buff chick out of Karen's eggs hatch out with pink skin but feet turned black within a week. I even contacted Karen when the chicks first hatched and asked about the pink feet. She said give it some time, they'll turn.
It could happen.

They may all be blue. The one in the middle is definitely blue though. I only have one true black female and she is not the mother of these chicks.

Is the top one frizzled or sizzled? I don't know anything about them but it's feathers look curled. Too cute!

Her wings are just shreddy and tight and her body is not long. And she is young. These three are special because they may very well be Clyde's babys. He is the one that died of heat stroke a few months ago. Non of my silkies are show quality. I just got them as cast offs from breeders that show. I am going to try and post a picture of Clyde. And maybe my little silkie flock.

PS I looked at that one feather hanging down there and see it is just a part of a feather that got broken/bent. I pulled it off, it was hardly connected.

I was wondering for those that breed silkies when you hatch tons of chicks so that you can select the ones out that look the best to continue breeding with how and where do you put all of the chicks? How long do you keep ahold of them until you know which ones you want to keep? I know waiting until they get older to really see their traits helps but how could you possibly keep all of the growing chickens for that long? I don't know if this makes any sense but I hope it does.
