Silkie thread!

No, I'm glad Leo Pierre's comb is big and growing. My concern is whether or not I should pluck or cut feathers in front of his eyes. He seems to get around and find everything OK...so maybe I should leave it alone?
I would leave it alone since you plan on showing him.

Quote: I have heavy duty tarps that have lasted through some decent snow storms. I did have to go knock snow off all the periodically but they held fine and they were fine in the wind. My biggest worry with the set up is the use of chicken wire and not enough ventilation. I would cut more ventilation up high and cover with hardware cloth and put a flap on the door. And everyone is right on when they say that a dog may not get in there, but a raccoon will, very easily. They are strong little buggers and will tear right through it.

This is Fred. It has been raining for 8 days, so i brought him in for a bath. Fred is 5 1/2 mos old and crows. Fred is in a pen with a kentucky speck rooster, who is half his size (but full grown at a year old), and a young ks pullet. I put Fred in with some 5 week old silkie chicks I have and he is doing well with them, just kind of looking them over. Is Fred a Fred or Fredricka? I thought he would have more of a comb by now.

yes he looks like boy

Good then I don't have to rename him!! I just saw some pics of 6 month olds with huge combs and started to wonder.
Leo Pierre didn't have a very big comb for a long time and then "Wammo" it just started growing into a big walnut-shaped form all the sudden. Also, he is more like 6 1/2 months old.

Here are pictures of him at 3 or 4 months old........a big change, huh!

Hello- welcome. Hope I can describe this correctly- I'm a little new, too. Hit "reply" then the sunshiny box will show up at the top (with smiley faces, etc), click that, and it will give you a box to upload it. If you want to quote on something someone else posted, click "quote". You can do the same from there. Hope that helped! Pam
