Silkie thread!

Took a couple of pics of the chicks and one of my roo. I know he is pet quality but I still think he is beautiful.

Darkness

First one is the Porcelain, Partridge, Black or B/S, and then the Buff

There is my Lavender standing there looking beautiful :)

I just love my chicks and my 6 month olds.

Love Darkness, what a handsome guy.

Here are my new silkies, they are now about 4 days old. A friend mentioned they did not have much of a crest and asked if they were a cross. I only have one roo and I just got a Jersey roo but he is young yet. Just wanted to know what everyone thought. When do their crests become more evident. I did have one with a more prominent crest but unfortunately it got stuck in the pen before I changed them to this enclosure.

Also I have some Jersey chicks coming and wanted to know when is a good time to sell these guys. I would like to keep one, when is a good time to bring momma and baby back to the flock? Thanks guys you guys are awesome.

I'm not sure what they are referring to about crests on 4 day old chicks. I hade some with vaulted skulls that looked like they had bigger crests at that age. But my non vaulted babies didn't really have a crest at that age. Now I have one with a huge crest, and one with a medium crest. I don't think it matters at this age. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Love the proud stance of your roo. :D Beautiful chicks!
hey guys.. can you tell me what color eggs your silkies lay? Ive hnestly never busted any of my showgirls or silkies on the nest and never really thought much about it until today when i found one of them hoarding eggs. I cant tell the difference between theirs and the bantam cochins... is there a difference? Curious to know what i am hatching here.
I get nearly white to tan eggs and everything in between.
Little runt Yoshee practicing his big boy pose....

Now, he just needs a bigger butt! Pam
Very nice!

Too early to tell about crest. I usually wait about 4 weeks. Cute photos!

You're not wrong at all. A lot of chicks without a vaulted skull go on to develop very nice crests. From my experience, vaulted skulls have bigger crests full grown. However, not always.

Gretta did not have a vaulted skull.

Thanks guys, I thought that might be the case but the guy who is my friends boyfriend has raised brahma's (sp?) and americauna's and admittedly is not a silkie expert but it got me thinking! My chickens come from great lines but as someone so wisely said they are your hatch not the breeder you got them from. So I could introduce my hen and one chick back to the flock at four weeks? I wondered if my roo would be gentle with a new baby??? Thanks again peep blessed, km and aoxa!
