Silkie thread!

Got a question, what the minimum height should a fence have to stop silkies? mine is 5 ft tall but they are still babies...

5 ft. is more than enough but as mentioned, they need protection from hawks and fence climbers like cats. I had a cat kill a small silkie hen.

My cats think my chickens are just other weird looking cats haha! Even when they were chicks they would just sit with them and share some cheese but yeah I made sure the whole coop is secure because of fox, raccoons, fishers, skunks, etc...

In case you didn't, you will want to bury the fencing at least a foot into the ground too. Lots of things will dig to get under the fence.

I had one of my silkie chicks with splayed legs. My husband and I double teamed that sweet partridge and got the band-aid on his legs no problem and it stayed on there until it fell off in 5 days and Tonto is doing fine. Runs like the wind and is turning out to be the most handsome of silkie partridges. Don't give up and PLEASE don't cull. Special Needs chickens need to be loved too

I got the little guy for $10 instead of $15

His wings seem ok, I will take more pictures when DH comes back. I agree with you sager silkies, his comb is a bit small but he is very young (i guess 5 months), so I will keep on eye on it.
He is very tame and easy going and doesn't crow yet lol. Anyways for $10, I won't complain lol. Thanks again!

Poulettes ~ Do you have him quarantined? I was told to keep newbies away from your established flock for a few weeks. I am getting some splashes given to me tomorrow and I am going to keep them inside my house in a cage just to make sure.

So I've been playing photographer again. I started a 4 week online pet photography class and the first assignment was to take pictures of your own pet using natural lighting only in 3 different ways, indoors and outdoors. So my little partridge pullet(?) got to be the model for this week!

I'm starting to think that this one is a girl. Makes all the girly noises and looks an awful lot like a little lady. The chicks are three months and one week old now. And for some reason, the name Molly seems to fit for this one.

These three shots are just a fraction of the pictures I took with a black background. I'll post more later when I edit.

I'm thinking I'll use this last shot for the side light option for my assignment. Now I need to pick two more out of the 135 pictures I took.

But Molly was a star! lol

SANNA ~ You are a great photographer! WOW that's darn good and your Molly girl is stunning. I wish my silkies were that calm. How did you get her to sit like that?

I love him and he is very spoiled. He weaves in and out of my legs like a cat and begs for attention.

How cute it that. I don't have any that will freely come over to sit on my lap. I have Broke Beak (crossed beak d'Uccle) that comes inside to eat her mash I make and she will wander over to me at the couch and she will fly up to the coffee table but I have to grab her to hold her. Maybe one day. The chickens will come to the door when I shake the bag of Meal Worms though, haha. I'm trying with the new silkie chicks to hold them more. I hope this happens with mine soon.
