Silkie thread!

Thanks guys, I thought that might be the case but the guy who is my friends boyfriend has raised brahma's (sp?) and americauna's and admittedly is not a silkie expert but it got me thinking!  My chickens come from great lines but as someone so wisely said they are your hatch not the breeder you got them from.  So I could introduce my hen and one chick back to the flock at four weeks?  I wondered if my roo would be gentle with a new baby??? Thanks again peep blessed, km and aoxa!:bow
Introduce them back to what breeds? Just silkies? I introduce them at 2 weeks, or even younger depending on the mother. I have one mama that no one will mess with, so she gets to take them out as soon as they are steady on their feet!

Took a couple of pics of the chicks and one of my roo. I know he is pet quality but I still think he is beautiful.

Darkness

First one is the Porcelain, Partridge, Black or B/S, and then the Buff

There is my Lavender standing there looking beautiful :)

I just love my chicks and my 6 month olds.

So cute! Darkness is a handsome roo, and he knows it!

So I've been playing photographer again. I started a 4 week online pet photography class and the first assignment was to take pictures of your own pet using natural lighting only in 3 different ways, indoors and outdoors. So my little partridge pullet(?) got to be the model for this week!

I'm starting to think that this one is a girl. Makes all the girly noises and looks an awful lot like a little lady. The chicks are three months and one week old now. And for some reason, the name Molly seems to fit for this one.

These three shots are just a fraction of the pictures I took with a black background. I'll post more later when I edit.

I'm thinking I'll use this last shot for the side light option for my assignment. Now I need to pick two more out of the 135 pictures I took.

But Molly was a star! lol

Excellent work!!! I love when everyone posts pictures and looking forward to more of yours! Silkies are just so photogenic.

Hi- I have a silly question, and I'm sure the answer is "no". Does 5 grain scratch give them grit? I'm getting ready to switch them to what I hope is a good diet. Flock raiser with oyster shell on the side, and some scratch. Do I need some kind of additional grit? Someone said that the cockerls won't eat the oyster shell (witch is good, I have them with the pullets).

Kids, husband and animals alike all manage to face me with their backs when I am trying to take photos. And that is the "not deliberate" stuff. Youngest son likes to run away, throw his hands in front of his face, etc. Dog likes to stick her nose in the camera lens.
People think being a photographer is an easy job but it's really not!

I have a black kitty who always either turns her head away from the camera or makes a really weird face. Or she runs away! lol I can't get a good picture of that cat to save my life and I've had her for over 7 years.

SANNA ~ You are a great photographer! WOW that's darn good and your Molly girl is stunning. I wish my silkies were that calm. How did you get her to sit like that?
Thank you so much.

Molly was a star. I'm so excited to watch her grow. It's starting to look like she's going to be the best of the chicks I hatched, if not the best. They're only 3 months so anything could happen. lol But she certainly is a beauty. Out of Catdance eggs, so all the glory to Karen!
You know that I tried all kinds of tricks to get Molly to stand up and pose. She strikes such nice poses when she's outside. haha But when I brought her in, she stood there and complained anc whined and then all of a sudden I think she just thought to herself that this isn't working and just sat down.

And that was the end of everthing. lol But I got some nice shots of her sitting.

Those Silkies are big posers, that's for sure.

I don't think so. But chickens often get their own grit when they get outside time.

I really need to try and get some good pictures of mine. I just sometimes take the camera with me when I am out checking on feed or changing the water.

No it doesn't. They in fact need grit to digest that scratch. They wouldn't need grit with just flock raiser and oyster shell, but if you add whole grains, they do need grit. If free ranged, they should find their own. My silkies are a little dumb in that department. I sprinkle grit where they can see it.
